Whitebotham as a railwaytown named after General George Armstrong Custer on the Northern Pacific Railroad line between Laramie and Cheyenne. In 1875, it was renamed to honor Lieutenant Colonel John Fetterman of Company K 9th Kansas Volunteer Infantry who had been killed at Little Bighorn during the Indian Wars while commanding an infantry regiment from this same state company; Fetterman's remains were interred there until 1903 when they were transferred to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia where they are still commemorated today with a small park near their original resting place known as "Fetterman Park". The town has grown steadily since it began to be established as a community with several stores, three churches (one being dedicated in 1889), two schools (onechool operated by the Methodist Episcopal Church and one school operated by the LDS church), a post office (1876) and two hospitals since its inception which have both closed but remain listed on the U.S. Census Bureau's list of defunct villages and towns due to lack of residents or other reasons such as abandonment or closure of businesses over time

The Shiresons were among the earliest settlers in what would become Sheridan Township, east of present day Powell City. In 1877, C.F.'s son, George A., moved to Sheridan from Dodge City with his family and began trapping horses for meat and hides at Pioneer Ranch. From these beginnings, Sheridan grew into one of the most important towns in Wyoming during that time period thanks to its role as a center for cattle ranching and sheep farming as well as its strategic location on the banks of the Snake River which made it an important military post during World War I due to its importance as a supply line between Great Britain and American troops fighting against German forces across Europe. The town also saw growth due to its population reaching 300 by 1907 thanks to water shortages caused by climate change around that time period!
