Sheridan is located in Sheridan County, Wyoming. The shop served as the base from which all other businesses operated within town limits until 1935 when it closed down due to financial difficulties. In 1911, Mayor Woland Cramer erected a large stone plaque at center square honoring those who had made such an impact upon Sheridan’s history – Drilling Pioneer John Pfeffer (1853-1938), Mrs Jane Paddock (1854-1937), Mr Averill Coffin (1858-1920), Sheriff Dorman Buhl (1874-1946) & Mrs Clara Buffington (1875-1968). During World War II various military installations were located within or near town limits including Fort Bridger Arsenal 15 miles south of town; Air Force Base Elmendorf AFB 4 miles northwest of town; Army Ammunition Plant 20 miles northwest of town; Naval Weapons Station Midway Island 9 miles northwest of town; & finally Post Office Building 1 mile west of community center dedicated to these veterans who have served our country with distinction!
