Sheridan, Wyoming is home to the oldest continuously operating firearm factory in the United States. The Western Gun Works began manufacturing firearms there in 1892. The company closed its doors in 1976 but continued to produce firearms until 1997. At that time, it was one of only a few remaining gun manufacturers in the United States. The Sheridan Firearms Museum is located within the old Western Gun Works building. It contains an extensive collection of handguns and rifles from the company’s history. Additionally, the museum has a small archive of weapons seized by law enforcement during raids at the Western Gun Works over the years.
