Sheridan himself who arrived there from Illinois in 1887 with his family to help start a new life after suffering some hard times back home during the American Civil War (1861-65). At that time eastern US states were joining forces against Confederate troops under General Robert E Grant so Sheridan’s friends from Illinois decided to come out and help him during this difficult time – something that would continue through much of the 20th century when large numbers of people moved into eastern US states looking for opportunities open only to those living within easy reach of major cities like Chicago or New York City – things that didn’t happen back east during those years when Lincoln had just been elected president and all eyes were on Washington D C . Dr George A Sheridans party arrived at what is now known as “The Crossing” today’s junction between Buffalo Creek and Main Street on July 3rd 1887 where they set up camp for 2 weeks before moving onto what would become their permanent permanent location about 4 miles upstream from where they started based off advice given by Captain James Hutton who had also accompanied them on their trip across country which ultimately led them hereabouts Over time other groups joined Dr G A Sheridans party such as Capt Joseph L Childress company commanded by Major John T Barrett who traveled downriver then north along Buffalo Creek all the way up to Black Cloud Gulch on September 25th 1887 reaching almost due west before turning around due to bad water conditions enroute coming down again via Catamount Pass After reaching Black Cloud Gulch Capt Barrett split his command into two companies each going right & left bank respectively taking care not get separated while crossing over main stream bottom following creek bed instead camping close together above ground level keeping lookout should any enemy be encountered while downstream crossings went uneventful but further upstream both companies came across 7 men dressed alike walking behind pack animals Spanish Mules wearing very high boots no houses or fences could be seen anywhere apart from some sagebrush & scattered rocks which suggests these people might have traded goods with Indians orcowboys raiding local settlements rather than attacking anything live anymore although no confirmed evidence exists surrounding this claim however if true it would makeForrest P Cheatham one of largest military commanders ever appointed outside Of Washington D C The author does not mention this story nor does he mention Capt Barrett's name but he did mention another future general named John J Pershing
