Riverton, Wyoming is a small town in the Jackson County seat of Sheridan. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. It has been home to an Arsenal missile plant since World War II and its original downtown business district contains many examples of pre-war architecture including a movie theater, restaurant, and post office. In the 1960s and 1970s Riverton also became known for its production of high capacity kits (HCCK) munitions manufacturing plants which produced high explosive rounds for artillery and mortar ammunition. These plants were closed in the 1990s after Riverton was chosen as one of two sites in the United States to produce depleted uranium munitions under military program called BAE Systems Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). The history of HCCK production in Riverton goes back to World War II when it was first established that armaments manufacturers needed large quantities of highly Explosive Rounds (HE) in order to defeat Axis forces on land or sea. At that time there were no standards for this type of round and factories had to produce different types depending on what type projectiles they were making. As a result, many different countries developed their own variants of this round including China which manufactured both HEAT rounds and fuzes using depleted uranium ammunition. In the early 1960s, when ARPA-E started up, Riverton's HCCK industry became one of its keystone programs because it allowed ARM to develop new technologies for creating these rounds while still keeping costs low relative to other types of ammunition products being made at that time. The river valley town quickly became known as "the weapons plant capital of America" due to its heavy reliance on these munitions during both world wars. By 2006 all but one HCCK factory had been shut down with most remaining active only producing components for other companies such as Raytheon or Lockheed Martin who continued production until 2009 under a Memorandum Agreement between those three companies and US Department Of Energy's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LNL). One notable exception was ARPAnet Arms Manufacturing Inc., which continued operations until 1995 making hand grenades, rockets, mortars, bombs etc..

Riverton is a small town in Laramie County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 946 at the 2010 census. Riverton is part of the Great Plains region. The community was named for the river that ran through it. The first settler in what is now Riverton was John Denton in 1876. He and his family built a log cabin on the bank of the Laramie River. The Denton family continued to live there until 1903 when they moved to nearby Hastings. By 1909, all but one member of the original Denton family had died, leaving behind a total of 16 settlers in Riverton - 10 men and 8 women. One of the early pioneers in Riverton was Cyrus Heston who founded an oil well near current day Union Pacific Railroad tracks in 1901. He also established a flour mill and post office here in 1902. Heston's successors developed many businesses here including a grocery store, livery stable, auto dealership, hospital and grain elevator before he himself passed away in 1941 without any descendants remaining living hereabouts after he left everything to his wife Betty Jean (Neely) Heston-Pooler III on his death bed; Betty Jean remains today as one of only two surviving heirs to her father's fortune (the other being their daughter Heather). In 1911 Jens Jensen started operating an agricultural feedlot adjacent to present day Walmart across from downtown Riverton; this operation continues today as Jensen Farms LLC which provides quality hay and cattle feed for local ranchers throughout much of eastern Wyoming and portions of Nebraska
