This change in fashion was due to advancements in firearm technology that made it much more difficult for shooters to be injured by stray rounds or projectiles. In 1949, an ordinance was passed which outlawed most types of firearms within Laramie city limits. As a result, many Shooters Protective Association (SPA) chapters were formed to continue providing shot-protection services to local residents. One of the oldest extant shooters protective associations is that located in Weld County, Colorado which is still active today with members from both Colorado and Wyoming!

Laramie is a small town in Wyoming, located on the Wyoming-Idaho border. The population was 5,029 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Laramie County. The name "Laramie" comes from the Lakota word ʼalaʼi ("to travel") and means "the place where things happen." The first settler to arrive in what is now Laramie County was Augustus Richard Dodge in 1868. Dodge's original homestead consisted of only 15 acres (6 hectares). Two years later, he and his wife, also named Augustus Richard Dodge, founded a trading post at what is now known as Dodge City. In 1871, they built a new home here which became their permanent residence. The two towns grew together and by 1890 were considered separate but equal communities within the county. In 1907, Laramie became part of Cheyenne County when that area was organized from part of Sheridan County. From then until 1959, it was part of Sheridan County as well. However, on January 1, 1959, it became one unit with Cheyenne County under the jurisdiction of the new Walker Administration Act we passed that year creating Wyoming’s first rural municipality system. This act provided for more efficient government by dividing counties into smaller areas so that elected officials could better serve their constituents and improve services available to them within their boundaries. Today Laramie remains an active community with businesses and residents contributing to its growth both inside and outside its borders!
