Gillette, Wyoming is a small town in Logan County, Wyoming. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Logan County and is located on the Cache River. Gillette was founded in 1857 by John C. Gillette and named after him. The first post office here was established in 1859. The community started as a small log cabin settlement on theCache River, about two miles upstream from present-day Gillette. By 1860, it had grown to include a store, bank and four families resident thereabouts. In 1862, settlers built a sawmill on the Cache River where it joins the Yellowstone River downstream from present-day Gillette. The mill continued operation until 1972 when it was replaced by an oil refinery that still operates today as part of Shell Oil Company's Cheney Refinery Complex.
