Gillette was founded in 1885 by two brothers, William and Samuel Gillette. The company became one of the world's leading manufacturers of safety products, including Razors, Tooths and Safety Glasses. In the 1960s and 1970s, Gillette developed new models of its popular Mach 3 razor. The company also produced a line of Optical Devices, which included telescopes and microscopes. In 1980, Gillette merged with Braun Corporation to form the worlds largest shaving brand. The merger led to a growth in manufacturing capacity for both companies as well as product launches such as the Mach3 Razor and the Flexshave razor series. In 2002, Gillette announced it would sell its optical devices business to Philips SE for $2 billion. At that time, Philips was the world's largestoscope manufacturer.

Gillette is located on the southern edge of Sheridan County and directly across from Great Falls National Park. The first European to visit what is now Gillette was Jedediah Smith in 1829. He camped there for several days before continuing his journey eastward. A post office called Gillette was established in 1869, and remained in operation until it closed in 1925. On July 3, 1914, World War I veteran George Wickersham decided to set up a trading post at what is now known as Wickersham Corner. Wickersham Corner Trading Post served as an important stop on the Smoky Mountains road system during the war because it had a store and room to sleep for truck drivers transporting goods between Great Falls and Little Rock, Arkansas. The post office at Wickersham Corner was discontinued on October 5, 1922 when that town became Great Falls

Gillette, Wyoming is a small town located in Sheridan County, Wyoming. The population was 2,651 at the 2010 census. Gillette has been a community since 1892 and is the county seat of Sheridan County. The town was named after John Gillette, an early settler in the area. The first stores in Gillette were built on Main Street in 1892 by Fenton Woldridge and his brother-in-law Moses Bowers. The two brothers started out selling groceries to local farmers and ran their store until they sold it to E.H. Dickinson in 1916. In 1922, the Gillettes bought land east of the town from the Dickinson family for $1 million dollars. They rebuilt their old store on present day Third Street and opened it as a grocery store and service station called "The Gillettes' Service Station". In 1951, they opened their second store on Fourth Avenue which became known as "The Gillettes'. The original building still stands today and serves as both a grocery store and tourist attraction. In 1984, the Community Foundation of Sheridan County bought the old service station property for $2 million dollars and renovated it into what is now known as "The Gillette Museum". The museum contains exhibits about history of Gillette, its people, businesses and events from before its incorporation into Sheridan County to current times. It also features an amusement park with rides including a roller coaster called "Gillespie's Gulch" which took its name from one of the early settlers in Gillette.
