Gillette is a small town in Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sheridan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1879 by Elias C. Gillette and his father, Samuel Gillette. It originally consisted of a few homes and a schoolhouse. In 1902, the community became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and six council members. In 1916, the town renamed itself after James Henniker Gillette, its first mayor. In 1940, an L-shaped airfield was built near the village for use by the USAF during World War II. The airfield served as base Camp Echo until it closed in 1946; then it served as home to Air Force Technical School No. 2 (AFTSN2). The camp operated until 1959 when it was closed down due to budget cuts within Air Force headquarters%. In 1984–1985, Gillette celebrated its centennial with a series of events including an open house and picnic from October 1-4th; two days of festivities including arts and crafts Fair on November 3rd; parades on November 5th & 6th; street fairs on December 3rd & 4th; dinner at the Buttermilk Inn on December 7th; and general illumination on January 17th which marked one hundred years since Elias C Gillettes founding of the town There are still many reminders from that time such as streets named after him or landmarks like his old schoolhouse which still stands today

Gillette is a town in Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. It was founded in 1875 by John Gillette and named after the company's founder, Levi Strauss. The population was 1,834 as of the 2010 census. The town is located on the Eastern Plains of Sheridan County at (36.957815,-111.241401). It is adjacent to the towns of North Platte and Evansville and to the Wyoming Range National Monument east of Grand Lake. It was one of many towns platted around Greeley during the early days of Wyoming Territory when that territory was organized on November 15, 1876 from western Kansas and Nebraska with a population estimated at 5,000 people. That same year, Gillette became part of what would become known as Larimer County which had a population of 10,000 people by 1880. In 1892, when Gillette became an incorporated city it received its first water system from Buffalo Creek which flows through it today. In 1898 it also received electric lights from Buffalo Electric Company while it still continued to be part of Larimer County until 1902 when it got its own water system and became an independent city under charter granted on February 6th that year by voters in a referendum held in both cities combined – this only happened because then-Mayor George Aiken refused to sign incorporation papers without City Hall having been built so residents could actually interact with each other within their respective cities instead of just going into either one overpopulation-prone district.) In 1907 Erie Railroad donated land for a line connecting Greeley with Casper via Sheridan; this line currently forms part of the interurban D&RGW lines running between Milwaukee and Denver/Aurora Amtrak stations.. The railroad depot now houses the Sheridan County Historical Museum . From 1907 until 1927 there were no passenger trains running through town due to construction projects along I-80 but passenger service resumed after those projects were completed . Passenger service ceased again in 2001 due to cuts mandated by then-Wyoming Governor Phil Bredesen who felt that Interstates 80 & 90 should be widened rather than narrowed as he believed they had been since before he took office .) According to some sources dating back to 1911 local farmers began raising beef cattle using ranches west of town which helped contribute to growth thereabouts however most recent estimates put this number much lower given current prices for beef cattle – still though history does have some amusing stories associated with Beef Culture here…)
