Gillette is a small town in Haskell County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from "Gillette" (a mountain) and "Clinton" (a hill). It was founded in 1875 by General George Clinton as an agricultural community. The first permanent settler arrived in 1876. The Gun Lighthouse district was established in Gillette on October 15, 1880 by order of Colonel Edward Hurlbut to provide security for vessels using the Black Mesa River for navigation. On November 3, 1888, a lighthouse ship called Enterprise passed near the shore of what is now Gillette and it appear that one or more shots were fired from her side as she sailed past; however no damage resulted and no injuries were reported. On January 1st 1893, two grayScannelds guns were mounted on a nearby bluff overlooking the Black Mesa River as part of a defense against possible attack by Indians led by Sitting Bull. There have been several reports of shots being fired from this location over the years but no confirmation has ever been found to support these claims. In 1924-1925 two new lighthouses were built at both ends of US Highway 287 which runs through town: One tower was destroyed during an earthquake in 1966 while reconstruction began and another tower still stands today with 40 ranking spot lights making it one of the most used lighthouses in North America! Through much testing and evaluation various designs were submitted for installation on top of surrounding buildings including helicopters which never made it off the drawing board because there simply wasn't enough forest land available to be developed into such a facility without damaging or even destroying sensitive aircraft systems! In 1978 construction began on what would become known as "Gun Lighthouse Park", consisting primarily of a visitor center with exhibits about local history along with gun ranges within walking distance! Today its operated under license by the National Park Service providing access to cannons firing live rounds out their tops!

Gillette was founded by George Gillette in 1869 as a gold-mining colony and named after his father, who had also been active in the mining industry. The first store in Gillette opened on Main Street in 1875. The town's first post office was established on Third Street in 1876. In 1902, the townsite of Gillette was annexed by Sheridan and it became a full-time incorporated municipality under that name in 1908. In 1910, George Aiken opened the first steel plant west of Chicago and soon manufactured other items such as automobiles and razor blades there as well. By 1920, Aiken's company accounted for more than half of all American output from steel production that year; it would remain an important player until its bankruptcy several years later. In 1927, Ivar Kreuger opened the world's largest cheese factory outside of Europe at what is now known as Old World Cheese Complex near what is now called Interstate 80 (then US Highway 95). That same year saw construction begin on what would become one of Wyoming’s most famous tourist attractions: The Jackrabbit Museum & Park located just off County Road 12 east of town along Highway 8 bisecting it between North and South counties (the old two were originally part of Sheridan County). The museum features exhibits about early cowboy life including artifacts from both the original Gold Rush community (the present day city of Cody) where George Gillette settled with his family during those years and nearby Butte also during that time frame Not long after he took over Old World Cheese Complex - which included up to thirty buildings - Ivar Kreuger passed away suddenly leaving behind a complex with assets valued at $235 million when it went bankrupt less than four years later due to overspending caused largely by high demand for his products around the world rather then anything else within those borders Consequently much effort has been put into rebuilding/revitalizing THAT facility since then both physically inside AND technologically...including but not limited to their own private jet travel system utilized exclusively within THE FACILITY itself!

Gillette is a town in Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2000 census. It began as a post office called Gillette in 1877. The name was changed to Gillette in 1902. In 1905, the town became an incorporated municipality. The first settlers in what is now Sheridan County were part of the Fremont Expedition of 1849 and arrived during the spring of 1850. They traveled through present-day Gillette on their way to Yellowstone National Park. One group established a small log cabin near what is now the intersection of US 6 and WYO 175 (now US 191). The cabin served as home until around 1860 when more people moved into the area and built more permanent homes. In 1862, George Armstrong Custer walked through this area while scouting for Black Hills land grant proposals and he recommended that some new settlers move into what would become Sheridan County because it had “a good hunting ground” with “high mountains around it” that could be used for cavalry training purposes if needed by General Ulysses S Grant’s army during the Civil War. As early as 1865, there were several companies of soldiers stationed at Fort Washakie along US 6 about six miles east of where present day Gillette sits. This was done as part of Cavalry Training School #1 which operated from 1865-1868 at Fort Washakie under Major General Philip Halleck's command; later known as Camp Haleck or Polytechnic Army camps across America during World War I (1914-1918). The primary purpose behind these operations was to provide mounted unit commanders with firsthand experience with artillerynery techniques so they could better direct battlefield firepower should hostilities break out on American soil again hostilities erupted between America and Great Britain over ownership of North American Territory acquired via Treaty Of Paris following Mexican War including parts of Colorado, New Mexico etc.. These Cavalry Training School#1 deployments also gave rise to today's town names such as Washakie Valley/Wyoming Valley/Grant County etc... Many other towns within Sheridan County were established during this time including Cut Bank (later Union City), Wind Creek (later North Little Rock), Kingston Mines/Mining Camp No 4 (later Kingston Mines Resort), Starburg/Starburton (later Quality Inn) etc... The first school in what is now Sheridan County was founded by Methodist Reverend Amos Sprague in 1865 just north of where current day Gillette sits on WYO 176 approximately two miles from wherepresent day Centerville stands today started serving grades one through four soon after being opened up from logs that year according to local historian Drvant Snively who has researched and wrote about this history for many years ago situated off HWY 40 near milepost 158 have been various buildings located here over time such as church basements lamp posts storehouses barracks residences but all are long gone except one building still standing presently which may date back to 1872 when it functioned as a post office
