Evanston, Wyoming is a small town in Fremont County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 3,833 at the 2000 census. Evanston is part of the Laramie–based 1870 Census Tract and the Sheridan Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Evanston were French Canadians who arrived in 1847. They built a log cabin on the east side of shinny creek and named it "Ville-aux-Flammes." The first school was taught by Mary Jane Hebard and served students from kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1852 a group of Americans named themselves "The Prairie School District" and started teaching grades one through twelve in an old adobe building on Broadway between Seventh and Eighth Streets. In 1865 two groups of Mormons founded Brigham Young's Salt Lake Valley Mission near present day Evanston. With few exceptions all of the early settlers here came from Northern Ireland or England. In 1907 when Fremont County was organized it included parts of Sheridan, Wyo., including what are now Evanston. The county seat was moved to Casper in 1912 after Casper became an incorporated city

Evanston is a small town in Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 2,871 at the 2010 census. Evanston is located on the eastern edge of Sheridan County and along the Cache River. It is north of Laramie and south of Cheyenne. The first settlers in Evanston were farmers who came from Illinois in 1854. They built a log cabin near present-day Evanston and named it for their new home state, Illinois. In 1860, Captain John Fetterman bought land in what is now Evanston and began to build a small school and store there. He also started to grow cotton crops. By 1864, Captain Fetterman had developed his land into an area that included what are now Evansville Road and Park Avenue (now State Street). The first post office was established at Evanston in 1865. In 1868, Captian Fetterman sold his land to Atherton Brothers Coal Company for $1 million dollars ($ as of 2019). In 1872, General James Hallett organized the Sheridan Volunteer Cavalry which helped fight against several wagon train robberies during the Indian Wars. This group became known as The Wildcats because they used only horseback riders instead of firearms or artillery to fight these wars. After winning many battles against the Indians, General Hallett presented captain John Fetterman with a cavalry sword with this inscription: "Herewith I give you this horse sword made by my brave lieutenant colonel James Hallett." For many years afterwardsCaptain Fetterman enjoyed using this sword at events such as rodeos and other family gatherings where he could share stories about his victory over the Indians with his guests! In 1896 Captain John Fetterman donated 4 lots adjoining his original school site to make way for a larger community center which would be used for church services, weddings, funerals etc.. As time went on more businesses opened up including grocery stores (Foster's Grocery), barber shops (Larson Barber Shop), physician offices (Harding Neurology), post office (EvanSTON THE POST OFFICE) and various other businesses! In 2002-2003 work began on renovating/addressing some of the old buildings within market square to create apartments units called "New Town". due largely to donations from Mayor Jane Kimball things are finally moving forward again! Evanston's history begins with its founding date of November 8th1854 when two farmers named James Fenstermeier & Michael Ziegler decided to move westward out of Chicago after hearing about Josephine County being opened up eastward by President Ulysses S Grant shortly before Christmas that year
Evanston was founded in 1847 by Captain George Wright, who surveyed and named the town after himself. In 1881, Evanston became the capital of Wyoming. The first school in Evanston was built on the corner of Superior and Dearborn Streets in 1848. It was destroyed by a fire in 1850 and rebuilt with brick. The first post office opened in Evanston on May 3, 1850.
