In 1920 real estate prices began to increase rapidly as people who sold their lots snapped up available opportunity to build homes near irrigated agriculturelands west of town; this stimulated further development eastward along Interstate 80 until Cheyenne developed into one of North America's most vibrant cities with large suburban areas since World War II when major highway improvements connected nearby metropolitan areas statewide (#1: I-80 through Carbondale – 1945), while downtown became a center for cultural events and commerce #2: The Arts District (1927) grew around Union Pacific Railroad Depot No. 2 which served as both a theater and exhibition hall before becoming completely renovated as CenturyLink Field (2005). Rockefeller Auditorium complex consisting of two buildings – One brick – designed by architects firm Lovett & Madigan and erected 1925 on property donated by Rockefeller Brothers Fund Company formed 1909 outgrowth Dakota Land purchase settlement Cheyenne #4: A new shopping center featuring three levels incorporating a supermarket/cafeteria/pharmacy operation anchored by an anchor tenant Safeway LLC opened 2007 on Main Street SW between 10th Avenue NW and Broadway SE

The city grew rapidly from its incorporation in 1878 to its peak with a population of over 120,000 by 1907. However, after World War I and the Dust Bowl, the city went into decline. It declined further during the 1970s and 1980s as a result of economic decline, crime rates, and environmental degradation. However, since the 1990s Cheyenne has begun to experience an rebirth as a center for culture, education, and business. In 2000 it became one of five cities selected to be part of the Western New York City Leadership Network. The network provides support to small businesses throughout New York City. In 2003 Cheyenne was selected as one of twenty-five finalists for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places listings in Buffalo-Niagara Falls-Albany-on-the-Lake region (NRHP). As part of this nomination process NRHP reviewed both historical significance and architectural features within Cheyenne which made it eligible for designation from NRHP. The selection resulted in extensive renovations which brought about new housing developments along with new public plaza development named after former mayor Gaylord Nelson who had been instrumental in initiating revitalization efforts within townspeople following his death in 2001
