The town began to experience economic stagnation during this period as most residents commute toDenver for work or for other services provided by Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area businesses such as schools and libraries. However, since 1997 when production from natural gas fields began to appear along Interstate 25 east of town, economic development has begun to take hold with new businesses opening up around downtown and elsewhere in the community. In addition to its role as a center for economic development within its own borders (including portions of Weld County), Cheyenne also serves as an important transportation hub serving parts of northern Colorado and eastern Wyoming In 1957 Rocky Flats National Monument was created covering much of what is now southeastern Cheyenne Township including most of downtown; however this designation did not apply retrospectively to what are now southeast corner blocks lying within Rocky Flats National Monument boundaries before 1957 annexation On March 14th 1951 Cowboy Joe's bar opened up on Main Street in Downtown Greenwood Village with two rooms upstairs used for storage while they built their neonatal intensive care unit acrossoads on 15 acres just east side main street across from High School called Tony's Farm where gasoline engines were started up during World War II generating power for lights during night; later moved indoors into larger building on left side next door parkade
