Cheyenne, Wyoming is a small town located in the U.S. state of Wyoming. It is the county seat of Laramie County and lies on the Northern edge of the Laramie Mountains, about 120 miles (185 km) northwest of Denver, Colorado. The population was 4,814 at the 2010 census. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Cheyenne were white fur traders led by Captain James Bridger in 1828-29. A post office was established here in 1836, and by 1860 it had a population of about 150 people. The townsite was settled by Mormon pioneers from Utah who named it after General George Armstrong Custer's cavalry unit that had fought at Washita River Bridge during the Indian Wars of 1868-1869. The railroad arrived in 1903, bringing new trade and industry to Cheyenne; however, World War I caused a significant decline in population as many men enlisted to fight abroad or died from injuries sustained while fighting. After World War II increased international travel led to an influx of residents; however, this growth did not last and By 1990 Cheyenne's population was only 527 people living within its downtown limits. In 2000–2001, economic constraints brought about several layoffs at local businesses which resulted in an estimated 2% decrease in statewide unemployment rates over that period; nevertheless, crime remained high with violent crimes accounting for most reported assaults/robberies each year between 2002 and 2006 A major issue facing Cheyenne today is its lack of municipal services including water availability or sewage systems – both are essential for keeping communities healthy In 2003–2004 there was also a campaign to raise awareness about global climate change and its effects on regional economies such as those near urban areas such as Cheyenne where wind energy production could help alleviate some environmental concerns Withdrawing federal funding has forced many small businesses owners to close their doors since 2009 amidst difficult competition from larger companies looking for tax breaks

Cheyenne is the seat of Sheridan County, Wyoming. It was founded in 1868 as a post office on the Snake River by an agreement between United States President Abraham Lincoln and Cheyenne Chief Black Hawk. The town began to grow rapidly after gold was discovered nearby in 1872. By 1901, Cheyenne had become one of the most important economic centers in Wyoming. In 1907, the first oil well was drilled in Sheridan County. This led to a boom in ranching and mining operations throughout the area. The town continued to grow and decline during the 20th century, but has regained some of its former prominence since 2000s when it became host to the annual Cowboy Summit convention.
Cheyenne was founded in 1868 by German immigrants as a trading post on the Arkansas River. The town grew rapidly and by 1887 it had 2,000 residents. In 1901 Cheyenne became the capital of Wyoming Territory. By 1912 it had 5,000 residents and was home to the stately Capitol building.
