That year, voters approved a proposition creating Cheyenne Township which became reality in 1916 when Territorial Act No. 1 created Laramie County with its present boundaries In 1932, construction began on what would become America's second tallest brick office tower – now known as One Financial Center – located between FirstEnergy Stadium on the north side of town and Pinnacle Peak Resort & Casino on the southside of town. Cheyenne, Wyoming is a town located in Logan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 1,823 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sheridan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded on Valentine's Day in 1876 by Cache Creek Sioux leaders and miners looking for a new site for their reservation. They named it after General George Armstrong Custer and his unit of the Seventh Cavalry during the American Civil War. The first post office was established in 1879, and the first school was built in 1880. The town grew rapidly following its establishment as a mining center with lead and silvermining operations until World War II when strategic bombing destroyed most of the industry. Cheyenne has been called "the cultural capital of North Dakota" because of its concentration of arts and culture events including operas, plays, dance recitals, film festivals, symposia and literary readings throughout the year. In 2009-2010 Cheyenne hosted more than $5 million worth of cultural events statewide alone which showcased art from around North Dakota as well as international artists from around the world. The economy of Cheyenne is based primarily on agriculture with cattle ranching being one majorstay since pre-war days; however recent development has included increased tourism offering an array of activities such as horseback riding or skiing in wintertime near Mount Rushmore National Monument (a 2 hour drive away) or Plains Drilling Museum (an hours drive away). Some residents also work in nearby Fargo or Devils Lake while others are employed by local businesses outside Cheyenne proper but still connected to it through social media sites like Facebook or Twitter
