The Casper gun case history began on November 5, 1892 with the purchase of a Winchester Model 1892 rifle by W. H. Overholt from Pawnee Tomahawk Gunsmiths in Casper. This was the first gun case to be made in the town and it held 4 rifles and 22 pistols. The case was used for storage, Demo testing, and as a working tool for local farmers. It is now exhibited at the Wyoming State Museum in Casper. In 1903, A. B. French purchased a Winchester rifle from Pawnee Tomahawk Gunsmiths and brought it to Casper. He used it to shoot at local game birds and deer during hunting season. French also built a shooting range in his home that served as an attraction for locals and tourists alike for over 40 years until it burned down in 2006. In 1945, Wm Jorgensen bought a Winchester rifle from Pawnee Tomahawk Gunsmiths and brought it to Casper along with other firearms including handguns and shotguns for sale to citizens of the town during World War II. In 1947, he opened up his own gun store called The Pistol Shop which became one of the most popular businesses in town after selling weapons such as Winchesters, revolvers, shotguns, air guns etc.. In 1969-1970 Gail Sanger acquired property adjoining her parents’ farm east of downtownCasper where she began building what would become known as ThegunCaseMuseum which currently contains more than 100 vintage handguns and rifles from around the world!
