He wanted to make sure that all Americans could have access to quality farmland. A post office was established at Casper in 1903, and remained operational until 1962. In 1907, Arapaho Indians began occupying lands around present-day Casper; these people continued to use the name "Casper" for themselves until 1912 when they decided to change their name to "Wyoming". The Arapaho reservation was removed by order of President Franklin D Roosevelt in 1944 and its replacement with administrative units within the United States made casper's status as a town more official. As part of an effort led by then-Mayor Bob Potter, coins were minted throughout Wyoming denominations starting at $0.25 cents (cents).
