Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin is known for its pepper spray history. The city was founded in 1854 by John Fitch and his family. It was the first incorporated municipality in Wisconsin. The Village ofWisconsin Rapids merged with Racine on May 1, 2002 to form the city of Racine. The currentarelated rapids area were created by running water down hills that came from melting glaciers over millions of years ago. When these hills melted away, they left behind valleys and ridges which created today's rapids areas around Wisconsin Rapids and other nearby towns united by their shared history and interests in fishing and tourism

Wisconsin Rapids is a town in Marathon County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The town was laid out in 1846 by John Leland and named for the rapids on the Waukesha River which led to its name. In 1848, it became part of the newly formed state of Wisconsin and was incorporated as a village. In 1855, it became an unincorporated community when it united with Racine to form Racine Village. In 1904, Wisconsin Rapids annexed the neighboring village of Delafield. On July 1, 1907, the towns of Racine and Milwaukee merged into Racine Village to create Milwaukee–Racine metropolitan area (now known as Milwaukee). That year also saw the opening of one of America's first air conditioning systems in Racine - providing cooling water to local homes for use during summertime heat waves. In 1947-1948, Wisconsin Rapids built one of two dams on Lake Michigan called Fond du Lac Dam & Navigation Co., Inc.. This dam was used both for power generation and storage until 1985 when it was decommissioned and converted into a nature reserve operated by the National Park Service
Wisconsin Rapids was founded in 1854 by John Neely Bryan. The city was named after the rapids that forms the border between Wisconsin and Michigan. The city's first store was opened in 1857. In 1865, Wisconsin Rapids became a county seat. The population of the city increased from 1,500 to 10,000 during the late 1800s and early 1900s. During World War I,Wisconsin Rapids sided with Great Britain against Germany and helped fight in the war. The war left many businesses closed down but also created new opportunities for the city because of its close proximity to military bases. After World War II,Wisconsin Rapids experienced a period of growth due to its partnership with Lake Michigan shipping companies. In 1973,the US Army vacated an area near town hall and replaced it with an open-air mall which remains today as one of the most popular shopping areas in Wisconsin Rapids
