Wisconsin Rapids is a town in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,825 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Fox Cities Combined Statistical Area. Completed in 1935, it was originally designed as a cantilevered steel girder bridge but has since been converted into a pedestrian walkway with extensive landscaping that includes ponds, gardens, art galleries and a replica of an old log cabin used by settlers in those days.

Wisconsin Rapids is a city in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 12,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Wisconsin Rapids was founded in 1838 by Danish immigrants as a trading post on the Fox River. The post office was first called New Sweden and later Wisconsin Rapids. The town grew up around the railroad depot, which became an important transportation hub for goods traveling from Illinois to Minnesota and points east. In 1856, the town passed a resolution proclaiming itself an independent village under the jurisdiction of Green Bay. By 1870, there were over 200 people living in Wisconsin Rapids. The railroad arrived in 1862 and quickly stimulated development in Wisconascity around it. In 1865, when rail lines connected Milwaukee with Chicago via Wiscona Falls and Janesville, Wisconsin Rapids became one of these nodes; it continued to grow rapidly until 1890 when its population peaked at 1,500 residents and declined to 700 after construction of the Milwaukee-Wiscona Bridge destroyed much of what had once been downtown (notwithstanding efforts by local officials to keep some semblance oftown life). After that point growth slowed gradually until reaching its current level about 2000 residents
In 1847, the first permanent settler in what would become Wisconsin Rapids was James R. Gamble. By 1852, there were over 60 people living in the town. The town was designated as a city by a charter vote in 1857. The city grew rapidly, and by 1870 it had over 350 residents. In 1898, the city became part of the new Milwaukee County when Milwaukee was created from portions of Racine and Waukesha counties.
