Whitewater is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. It was founded in 1855 by farmers from Iowa andMinnesota. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. Whitewater is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. It is located on the Fox River near its confluence with the Menomonee River. The first permanent settler in Whitewater was James Hickey, who bought land east of present-day Whitewater from the Wabash Indians in 1836. The first store was established in 1857, and a post office was established in 1860. In 1870, Cushman & Brown built a mill on the riverbank west of Whitewater northwest of present day Grafton Park. The men erected an addition to the mill that still stands today and named it Brown's Mill after their employer. In 1881, John Doherty began farming land south of Whitewater on what is now White Earth Road between Highway 41 and Highway 43A. He also built a house there which he called "Doherty's Mill". In 1907, Doherty sold his farm to Julius Kappelman for $2 million dollars. Kappelman developed it into one of Wisconsin's largest agricultural estates until his death in 1966; it currently includes over 180 acres (0 hectare) of farmlandlocated north of downtown Racine as well as several hundred residential buildings including many mansions dating back to the early 20th century In 1913, Eben Fulkerson started farming land eastofpresent-dayWhitewateralong current-day highway 45 about six miles north of Racine before he settled there permanently with his family in 1916 Fulkerson served as mayor of Racine from 1924 until his death in 1943 On January 15th 1889 John Doherty died intestate leaving behind five children: Martha Jane (1887-1962), James Maternal (1889-1965), Sarah Jane(1892-1970), John Denton (born December 6th 1893), and Edwin Emerson (born January 12th 1895). Martha Jane married Daniel Noyes on October 30th 1922 at St Paul’s Cathedral Choir School just outside Madison WI . They had one daughter: Kathleen Noyes Doherty born 1933 . On October 10th 1951 they divorced due to irreconcilable differences however they are still considered related through their common fatherhood relationship with Daniel Noyes

After purchasing his land, Christensen began construction on what would become known as Christensen's Damsite House which is still standing today and is one of only three remaining dams built by Christensen in WI (the other two are at Tomahawk Lake and Grafton). He also constructed a small mill on his property which produced flour for local grocery stores until it was destroyed in a fire in 1862. christensen also started an agricultural colony near present-day Green Bay called New Sweden Colony where he raised corn, beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, turnips, pumpkins and other vegetablesHe also established schools for his colonists including a primary school and a theological college; these institutions remain extant today as independent universities with campuses located in Green Bay and Madison respectively.- Despite being severely damaged by Hurricane Agnes in 1974,[1] New Sweden Colony continued to function as both a farming community[2][3]and educational center for farmers throughout central Wisconsin until its closure following World War II.- Following Christie's death in 1889,[4] control over New Sweden Colony passed through his widow Emma's hands until 1893 when it was sold to John Noyes who enlarged it into what is now known as Wiseman’s Landing.(Wiseman’s Landing) - In 1899 Wiseman’s Landing changed hands again when Averill Harriman acquired it from Noyes for $10 per acre.; Harriman renamed it Harriman Island after himself.-During World War II numerous naval ships were based at Wiseman’s Landing including USS Enterprise (CVN-64), USS Lexington (CV-2), USS Yorktown (CV-5), USS Missouri (BB-63), USS Fort Knox (AGS-8)and finally USS Shangri La(LZ-92). Many historic photos from this time period have been included within historical books such as "Wisconsin History" published by University Press Of America

By 1915, that route had been completed to Racine; however, passenger traffic on it stopped because of World War I. The railroad reopened after the war but did not build any more stations in Whitewater until 1955 when it built its current station south of town on state Highway 12A (now US 11).
