Whitewater was a small town located in the southwestern corner of Wisconsin, on the banks of the Whitewater River. The town was founded in 1854 by Danish immigrants and it quickly became a center for boatbuilding and fishing. The Fishing Company, which would later become Whitewater Paper mill, was one of the first businesses to open in Whitewater. In 1915, the United States War Office granted a federal land grant to Whitewater Township. This grant provided for the construction of a military post within the township. The post was named Fort Snelling and it is still standing today, serving as a museum and tourist spot.

Whitewater is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the upper Whitewater River. The population was 7,191 at the 2010 census. The name comes from nearby Whitewater Lake and its deep channels that allow canoes to be floated down the river. The town was founded in 1836 by Abram Casson and his family as an outpost on the lower Whitewater River for trading with fur traders and missionaries traveling upriver. Casson's son-in-law, David Taylor, built a sawmill there in 1847 which became one of the largest in Wisconsin. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century because of railroad construction and development along the Whitewater River corridor. In 1870, it was renamed for General James Klyssiphe Grant because he had been governor of Illinois at that time and many people in Wisconsin were then living in Illinois or near Chicago due to railroads progress across their states. In 1898, white settlers moved into what is now Whitewater after fighting a bloody land war with Native American tribes known collectively as the Lac La Hachee Sioux Nation over control of land east of present day Milwaukee Countyline on both sides of the river. This conflict led to what is now known as whitewater country - areas rich with natural resources such as coal seams and limestone - becoming part ofWisconsin even though these same resources are also found outside metropolitan Milwaukee On July 15th, 1978 five men were killed when a large unnamed tributary flows into Whitewater significantly below navigation levels caused by construction work being carried out by local municipalities adjacent to where Interstate 94 crosses over from Minnesota The tragedy held particular significance given that two years earlier four fishermen who died while boating near various points downstream from where I-94 crossed also came fromWhitwater

The first permanent settler in what is now Whitewater, Wisconsin was David Whitmire. He and his family arrived in 1836, and started a small farm on the current site of the city. The Whitmire’s were one of the earliest farmers in the area, and their descendants still live in the city today. In 1838, Nicholas Earle arrived to found Racine County. He built a cabin on the present-day site of Racine,Wisconsin. In 1840, John Cavanaugh came to Wisconsin from Ireland with his family and started a cattle business near Green Bay. In 1845, Abram Dowen arrived from England with his family and founded Milwaukee. Together these settlers formed the nucleus of what is now Milwaukee County. Whitewater was originally called Waukesha County because it lay east of Milwaukee proper on both sides of Little Creek. On November 1st, 1848, a referendum approved changing the name to Whitewater County because it seemed more appropriate for an area that had so much water activity than did Milwaukee or Racine Counties which were located west of Little Creek. The county seat was moved from Waukesha to Whitewater in 1850 due to growing population growth within its borders. The first courthouse in Whitewater was built by Judge Augustus Sheehan in 1851 . It served as the court house until 1906 when courthouse building became unnecessary due to change in government structure across town which led to incorporation of nearby Oak Brook into Cook County (the then new county).
