In recent years, the conversion of high capacity hard drives to SSDs has become a popular option for businesses. This is due to several reasons. First, hard drives are expensive and slow to spin down when not in use; an SSD can keep data active even when the disk is off. Second, high capacity hard drives offer more storage space than traditional SSDs. The downside is that these drives can be a bit noisy when operating and can require more power to function properly.

On July 1, 2007, Google announced that it would be investing $1 billion in expanding its data centers to two new buildings in Mountain View, California. The first building was completed on October 17, 2007 and the second building was completed on December 12, 2007.

Whitewater is the name of a stream in Wisconsin that flows from the Duluth Mountains to the Lake Superior shore. The Whitewater River was named for David Whitewater, an early settler and explorer in the area. The Whitewater River system is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Wisconsin, and it has been called "the Switzerland of America." The first people to live near what is now Whitewater were the Menominee Indians. In 1825, John C. Frémont explored the area and named it White Water Creek because he thought there would be a white water current running through it. In 1846, Isaac Brock visited White Water Creek and reported that it was a "mirror reflecting all that is great or small in this country." In 1854, James Kapp established a ferry on the Whitewater River at what is now known as Kapp's Landing. The first telephone line was laid down along the Whitewater River in 1895. By 1907, over 1,000 businesses had located along both sides of the river. In 1912, Congress designated part of Madison County asWhitewater Township for statistical purposes only; no land was ever annexed to this township by either party to form any real estate interest therein (although some buildings still remain). "Today," much like then-Senator Barack Obama said when he first ran for office (2008), "Wisconsinites know whitewater best – not just because we can swim its length but also because our state's history lies behind it." Legendary governor George Romney once told reporters during his gubernatorial campaign: "I'm proud to be able to call myself a 'born here' guy – I grew up near Racine [a town about thirty miles west of Milwaukee]". Many other politicians have touted their roots within Wisconsin during their time as public officials including Dick Nixon (1974-1977) and John Kerry (2002-2004).
