Whitewater is a town in Whitewater County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,471 at the 2010 census. The name "Whitewater" is derived from the creek that runs through it. It was originally spelled "Wichita." The first gun sights were built in Whitewater by early settlers. They used what were called “bushy sights” which consisted of a piece of wood with a hole drilled in one end and pointing out towards the target. These sights were not very accurate and often missed the target by several feet. Later, settlers built more accurate gun sights using iron sights which had posts set into them to hold onto while aiming. In 1851, an act was passed Congress designating Whitewater as a county seat for Whitewater County. This Act also provided for the construction of county courthouse and other public improvements within the limits of the new county seat. In 1853, money was appropriated to build another courthouse within the limits of the new county seat and this building became known as “The Old Courthouse”. In 1889, another act was passed Congressdesignating Whitewater as a city on account of its importance as an transportation center for goods moving between Milwaukee and Chicago via boat or railroads. On July 1st of that year, Whitwater became an incorporated city with its own government under Mayor John Fenton and City Hall located at 5th Street & Superior Avenue across from what is now First Baptist Church (now White Water Lakefront Park).

The town was first settled in 1836 and named for Captain Whitewater who died in 1837 on the Mississippi River. The first post office opened in Whitewater on November 3, 1836. The name of the town was changed to Green Bay in 1849 after its incorporation into Green Bay County. It became a city in 1912 and has since had a total population of over 2,000 residents. Whitewater is located just south of downtown Green Bay and east of Waukesha Avenue on the eastern border of Milwaukee County. The town's large water storage tank permit allowed it to become one of only a few towns inWisconsin that could be self-sufficient with its own water supply from Lake Michigan without having to rely on outside sources like Chicago or Milwaukee

Whitewater, Wisconsin is a small town in the central part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located about 25 miles (40 km) north-northwest of Milwaukee and 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Madison. The Town was named after Whitewater River, which flows through it. The first settler in the town was John Hargrave in 1837. At that time the area was forested and there were no towns or villages near by. In 1854, a post office was established at Whitewater and the name changed to Racine in honor of General James K. Polk who had fought during the Mexican-American War previous year. The first store in Whitewater opened on November 6, 1855 and operated for two years until December 9th when it closed because of a lack of business due to the Plains Indians being afraid to come into close contact with white people again following their earlier raids on whites settlements in that region. A second store opened on January 10th 1860 under the name Menomonee Falls Store & Creamery; however this store also failed to generate much business as well due to poor weather conditions which made travel difficult and often too cold for customers to reach their destinations safely from Menomonee Falls even though it sat atop a high hill surrounded by treesills because transportation then consisted mainly of wagons drawn by four horses pulling an oxcart filled with goods up one longhill ascending more than twenty feet (6 m), making backcountry travel very hazardous indeed given how deep snow lay most times each month during winter months outside those periods when roads were only open for traveling down one short narrow valley cutting through mountainside). It should be noted here that prior to 1870s whitewater would have been known as “Wabash” River because American soldiers retreating from Mexico called this stream “Wabash” after General Anthony Wayne’s army crossed over its lower course just south of Moreauville Creek just before Battle Of Buena Vista where they decisively defeated Mexican forces commanded by Lt Col Jose Maria Alvarado Belcher who had attempted unsuccessfullyto cross over Wabash River some 20 miles eastward from where he now lived at La Crosse along US Highway 12 northwest of Green Bay - finally achieving complete success some weeks later when his force consisting mostly Native Americans successfully invaded northern Mexico led by Tecumseh Sherman leading an army numbering more than 30,000 men including 5500 cavalryman under command Major General Andrew Jackson Buell
