Whitewater, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 3,447 as of the 2010 census. Whitewater is located in Green Bay County on the eastern edge of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. It lies northwest of Milwaukee and east of Waukesha County. The town was founded by Germans in 1847 and named for Whitewater Creek, which flows through it. The first settler in Whitewater was Michael Kappeler from Germany who built a log cabin on the banks of Whitewater Creek in 1848. Kappeler's cabin still stands and is currently open to visitors. The town was incorporated as a village in 1854 and reached its peak growth during the late 19th century with over 100 businesses operating throughout its limits including woolen mills, sawmills, brewery, grocery store, post office and hotel. However, during World War IWhitewater lost much of its prosperity due to prohibitions against Japanese nationals entering the United States at that time. From the early 20th century until well into the 21st century Whitewater experienced steady growth but has since suffered significant decline both economically and socially due to various factors such as climate change (the number of intense thunderstorms declined between 2000-2005), consolidation within local businesses (many smaller shops closed down during this time), suburbanization (although not as pronounced as it has been elsewhere) and an overall trend towards less rural living conditions across much of central Wisconsin region that began disappearing more than thirty years ago according to Census data In recent years there have been sporadic efforts – most notably spearheaded by Mayor Andy Schaeffer – to revive some aspects of community life including music festivals/concerts/ exhibits/a summer job fair/fairs/an arts festival; however these initiatives have generally failed to generate sustained levels of interest or activity beyond those already present in other communities nearby

Whitewater is a town in Whitewater County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Janesville-Racine-Wausau Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Whitewater were French traders and missionaries in the early 17th century. The first permanent settler was George Armistead, who arrived in 1681. He named his new land "Whitewater" after the River Whitewater in England which he had seen while on missionary work there. In 1836, John Stephenson built a cabin here and began trading goods with the Indians. In 1839, Stephenson's son James built a gristmill on the current site of town hall and started manufacturing flour for local consumption. The mill continued operation until it was destroyed by fire in 1944. In 1846, Jesse Benton purchased land east of town from George Armstrong for $6000 dollars. He started raising cattle here and became one of the most successful ranchers in this area. His ranch included some of the best land around and produced high quality beef for local Consumption until his death in 1927). One of Jesse Benton's sons, Vernon Benton also founded an agricultural college near Janesville which still exists today as UW–Madison's Agricultural Experiment Station (AES). Benton Bayou also formed part of Vernon Benton's estate and served as a source of water for many farms and homes within present day Whitewater Township as well as portions of Wausau County until it was diverted southward during construction of Interstate 44/UW Highway 894 in 1957-1961; see below history timeline about I-44 project James Stephenson's Mill & Grist Mill Site Today: This historic location houses WhiteWater Township Hall (built 1909), according to its current design by architect Don Weisman designs used throughout much of the eastern half dozen states where his father James operated his flour milling empire including Wisconsin (building #1), Illinois (building #2) and Michigan (building #3). The original building on this site housed both our township hall & second storey schoolhouse which burned down sometime between 1915-1920 but never replaced due to lack either funding or interest...This beautiful brick Gothic Revival building stands today just across from Big Spring Rd., just off currency PKwy./Old Hwy 54 north approximately 1/4 mile west from modern day intersection with Old Hwy 54 NE photographed Nov 4th 2009 courtesyof Mr./ Mrs.( Geo.) The first permanent white settlement in the area was established by the brothers Isaac and Jacob Whitewater in 1837. The town of Whitewater was named for them. The first store, built by IsaacWhitewater, opened in 1839. A post office was established at Whitewater in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1897. In 1851, the county of Racine was created, and Whitewater became its capital. On January 1, 1861, the County of Monroe was added to Racine County. The population of Whitewater increased from 20 to 100 during this time. In 1865, the first school building at Whitewater was constructed. It served as a school until it burned down around 1830s. In 1886, a new school building was erected at present-day Racine which served as the town's primary public school until 1903 when it burned down again. In 1893-1894 an express train service ran between Milwaukee and Racine using wagons pulled by horses; this service ceased due to lack of funds after reportedly only lasting three months due to harsh weather conditions on both sides of the tracks
