Whitewater is a town in Tippecanoe County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,524 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest community in Tippecanoe County and one of the most rural communities in the state. Whitewater was founded by German immigrants in 1834 and named after a small stream that ran through its center. The first settler in Whitewater was Wilhelm Kappeler. He built a cabin on the banks of the creek in 1835. Kappeler's son, Jacob Kappeler, erected a log cabin on his father's land near present-day Pickerington Road in 1843. In 1854, Wm. Hodge bought land from Jacob Kappeler for $4 per acre and began to build a house on what is now Main Street near Highway 362 (now State Highway 159). Hodge's wife died early in their marriage and he buried her there before moving into his new home. The first post office at Whitewater opened in 1850; it changed its name to Whitewater two years later because of competition from another nearby town, Davenport (then known as Davenport Falls). In 1864, John Sargent moved from Oneida County to Tippecanoe County and platted what is now Whitewater Township. He built an estate there called "Sargent Park" which became one of the most popular tourist destinations in central Wisconsin during the late 19th century when people traveled through Green Bay to visit Sargent's property. In 1906–1907, William Jensine built an addition to Sargent Park which became known as "Jensine House". The local high school was established here also around this time- but it closed down around 1970 due to budget constraints within Tippecanoe County government then led by Republican Governor Jim Doyle (D). Whitewater has had only occasional occupants over time: A family lived here briefly during World War II while they were caring for relatives who were living outside of America; another family briefly occupied the property during 1964–1965 when county officials renovated portions of Jensine House for use as public housing; however no permanent residents ever set foot here again until recently when visitors started flowing back into Whitewater thanks largely to several tourism projects being conducted by local businesses including whitewaterbrewingcompany Inc., which operates a restaurant located inside Jensine House museum today since 1978—the first commercial enterprise licensed inside such an historical site anywhere west of Chicago!
Whitewater is a city in the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources town of Whitewater, in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,914 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Methodists in 1852 as a Methodist settlement on the southern bank of the Kankakee River near its junction with the Whitewater River. The name "Whitewater" comes from one of three forks of the Kankakee River, which united to form it about 1840. The first school in Whitewater was built in 1852 and classes began for students from May until September. In 1860, Methodists established a new church and school at what is now South Park Avenue and Indian Road. In 1872, they erected also a meetinghouse on Meeting Street southeast of present-day First Baptist Church; this building served as both churches' headquarters until 1886 when they moved to their current location on State Street east of Main Avenue. In 1892, local businessmen organized an agricultural society which became known as The Republican Association; this group helped build Racine's first bridge over the Kankakee River (now part of Interstate 94) and donated land for what is now Whitewater High School (then called Racine Technical High School). The Agricultural Society then raised seed money for a canal project that failed but left behind one important legacy – Whitewater's water supply became available for development through canals Project D in 1911 In 1951, when Dearborn County merged into Michigan, Whitewater lost its charter from Detroit Municipal Council and became part of Racine Township; however it kept its name as its primary business office until 1958 when it changed to its current title In 1957–58, all schools within Racine Township were shuttered because funding wasn't available to keep them open; however West Side Elementary continued to operate whileracine township closed down all other schools including Whitewater City Schools District #2 which had been operated by white teachers since 1907
