It was at this time that Whitewater began its long history of firearm manufacturing and sales. Today, Whitewater is home to three traditional rifle ranges as well as several Handgun/Shotgun ranges. There are also numerous local gun shows throughout the year where residents can purchase various types of firearms including airguns.

These were established by territorial governments as western boundaries for their respective townships while still under Indian tribal jurisdiction which continued until 1840 when all tribes were removed from Wisconsin territory

The town's first store opened in 1847. At its peak during World War II, Whitwater had a population of around 1800 people and was home to one of the largest paper mills in America. Today, Whitewater is an agricultural community with a population of under 1000 people.
The first mention of Whitewater, Wisconsin is from the 1838 diary of John C. Fremont, who wrote: "I passed through this valley on my way to the Wabash River." The name was derived from a Ojibwe word meaning "to flow" or "to run." The original settlers in what is now Whitewater County were Dutch and English colonists. By 1855, most of the county had been claimed by Wisconsin Territory when Illinois became a state. In 1856, Congress created Racine County as part of Wisconsin Territory. In 1858, Racine County was divided into Whitewater and Superior townships. That year, the first white schoolhouse was built in Whitewater Township. The present-day town of Whitewater was organized in 1870.
