Weston, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Winnebago County. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Driftless Area of Northwestern Wisconsin on the Fox River. Weston was established in 1836 as a post office by an act of Congress under the name "Fond du Lac". The townsite which includes Weston and three surrounding villages were surveyed by Daniel Webster in 1836 and named for General James Armistead Weston, who had died two years earlier while fighting with Native Americans at Buena Vista Creek Indian War Site (now known as Fort Snelling). The first settler in Weston was John Wratislaw, who arrived May 6, 1837. By 1840 there were twenty-six families living hereabouts; four more arrived during 1841-1843 when Winnebago County was created from part of Des Moines County. The first schoolhouse was built in 1840 and served until 1865; it now stands as a museum building near the present day downtown area. Weston, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,500 at the 2000 census, and 6,711 as of 2010. It is located in the Fox River Valley region of the northern Great Lakes region. The town was founded on July 10, 1892 by George Weston and his wife Emma. The name "Weston" comes from a Miwok word meaning "place where deer are found." In 1901, George Weston donated land to create a town park that still stands today. In 1903, the first post office opened in Weston and was named after George Weston's father-in-law John Fenton. The first telephone line arrived in Weston in 1914; it was named Western Bell Place because it served both Westonsville and West Side Park before moving to North Avenue in 1919. In 1924, George Weston died and his wife Emma took over leadership of the community when she became president of the local school board; she remained in that role until her death in 1951. She was also an early advocate for building a freeway through Weston so that traffic could be better managed within the community.
Weston was founded in 1837 by German immigrants, and became a town in the Wild West. Named for General George Washington, it was one of the first settlements in Wisconsin. The town was destroyed by fire in 1847, but was rebuilt and renamed Weston after Governor John Weston of Wisconsin. It grew rapidly during the 19th century, becoming a city by 1925.
