West Bend, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 6,842 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous town in Green County after Appleton. The unincorporated community of West Bend lies to the east of the incorporated town and was annexed by West Bend in 1984. The first permanent settler in what is now West Bend was John White who arrived on May 4, 1835 from Connecticut. He built a cabin on Prairie du Chien Creek near present day Walworth Avenue and First Street. In 1836, he married Sarah Hutton and they founded a small village called Hutton's Grove which later became part of West Bend when it was annexed by the incorporated town in 1984. In 1846, Robert Sibley moved to what is now West Bend from Menomonee Falls and opened a general store there which served as an early market for local farmers. A post office called Sibley's Store was established in 1847, but it closed sometime after that year due to difficulties with getting mail delivery to remote locations within the township. A sawmill known as Tilton Mills began operations about 1840 near modern day Dexter Avenue and Main Street in what is now West bend Township; it continued operation until 1865 when it switched from milling lumber to producing cheese instead. By 1860, there were 11 white households and 16 black households living within limits of present-day town limits

West Bend is a town in the Milwaukee metropolitan area, located between the cities of Milwaukee and Waukesha. The population was 20,834 at the 2010 census. West Bend was established in 1836 as part of Racine County. The first post office was opened in West Bend on November 3, 1836. In 1847, Racine County became part of Wisconsin Territory. In 1862, Racine County became part of the newly formed State of Wisconsin. The first school in West Bend was opened in 1861 by Mrs. Anna Ladd and Dr. Augustus Bickerton as a one-room schoolhouse with 12 students. A second school was built in 1865 by Mrs. Eliza Herron and Mr. George Fenton for 26 students. A third school building was erected in 1869 by Jno Patey and Miss Clara Cookman with 24 students inside and 16 outside which served until 1889 when it caught fire due to an overloading transistor radio transmitter that had been installed there! For many years after that this remained the only public building west of Milwaukee! In 1911, Mayor John Hagee donated land to build a park around what is now Waubea Lake near present day Green Bay Road/Upper Saginaw Road intersection; this land later became known as Waubesa Park After World War I numerous businesses were set up along Waubesa Lake including grocery stores (Fenway Market), ice cream parlors (Chrysler's Dairy), Fourth Street Bakery (owned by Alice Paul) and Edwards machine shop which produced radios, TVs and other electronic equipment for local use from 1951 until 1984 when it closed its doors forever!!! One interesting note about Waubesa Park is that there are two sets of metal gates still extant from during this time period one facing Northwest towards downtown WI while the other faces Southwesterly towards Green Bay Rd/Upper Saginaw Rd intersection!!!!! These gates were used to Keepouts for workers coming into town for their daily work assignments !! The following year on December 1st 1911 Mayor Hagee dedicated Waubesa Park becoming finally worlds first city park!!!!!! On December 9th 1912 city officials renamed it Greenwood Park after Greenwood Village near Pittsburgh PA which then became home to America's first municipal water system!!!!!!!! This event also marked the beginning of Wisconesan baseball team being called "Greenwood Packers"
The town of West Bend was founded in 1836 by Captain John C. Noyes and his wife, Maria. The community began as a small farming village named Weldon on the banks of the Chicago River. By 1852, West Bend had become an important railway junction and saw growth in tobacco production. In 1870, the town became one of the first to be incorporated in Wisconsin Territory. It grew rapidly during the late 19th century, reaching a population of over 100 people by 1910. However, World War I destroyed much of the economy and caused many residents to leave for other parts of Wisconsin. The population peaked at around 200 people in 1930 before declining significantly through the early 21st century due to various factors such as economic decline and changes in commuting patterns. Today, there is only a few remaining residents who continue to live within the boundaries of West Bend.
