In the early 1800s, West Bend was a small town in Wisconsin. It was located on the western border of the state and had a population of around 1,000 people. The town was founded by Nathan Lyon and his family in 1835. The Lyon family operated a grocery store and post office in West Bend for many years. The Lyons were among the earliest settlers in what is now West Bend. They built a cabin on the side of a hill near where present-day Highway 41 meets County Road F4. The Lyon cabin became known as the “White House” because it stood out from other dwellings in the community. The Lyons were also among the first farmers in West Bend. They cultivated corn, wheat, potatoes, beans, and other crops throughout their lifetime. In addition to their grocery store and post office businesses, they also ran a school for children between 1835 and 1865. The Lyons left West Bend after World War II to move to Peoria, Illinois Territory. However, they returned to Wisconsin following that war and continued to live in West Bend until their death in 1951. At their death, they had amassed over 100 acres of land in what is nowWest Bent Township (WBT). This property remains today one of the most valuable pieces of real estate within WBT.

West Bend, Wisconsin is a city in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 17,815 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Milwaukee County. West Bend was founded in 1854 by Iowa Territorial Governor James K. Polk and millionaire George Stephenson as a railroad town on the east side of the river where now Waukesha Avenue and North Seventh Street are located. The city first moved to its current location on land that had been donated by Samuel Molineux in 1875. In 1889, it became part of the newly created Milwaukee metropolitan area and was incorporated as a city within that area on March 15, 1893. The original name for West Bend was "Milwaukee." West Bend has experienced many changes over its history; it has been annexed by other cities multiple times, including Racine (1915), Green Bay (1929), and most recently Appleton (2015). However, no matter what happened to the other towns', they all share one common thread: They have all been through economic decline since 2000-2010.The primary explanations for this trend include weak job growth across much of Midwest America due to competition from elsewhere in the region or an overall shift in economic activity away from services towards production; however there are also some unique factors associated with each annexation which may contribute to this pattern including changing demography and demographics within each town while adjacent towns continue to grow rapidly; however these patterns cannot be generalized without more research. West Bend, Wisconsin is a village located in the town of West Bend, Indiana. The population was 1,869 at the 2000 census. It was part of the Racine, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village's first residents were German immigrants who arrived in 1846. A post office called "Wendelstein" was established in 1854, and remained in operation until 1914. In 1868, a sawmill and gristmill were built by Diebold & Company on the east side of town. The first school was opened in 1870; it became known as "Osterwald School." In 1899, a Baptist church and school were both built on First Street. The village had its own fire department from 1905 until 1957 when it merged with Racine to form what is now Racine County. The Village of West Bend incorporated as a village on November 3, 1907. On December 1st 1909 local farmers created a water wheel powered by an engine that did chores for the citizens while they raised crops or played games around it (a fair game according to one account). This served as inspiration for later irrigation systems throughout the community (see: pictures below). In 1916-1917 during World War I WBAE operated two shortwave radio transmitters from West Bend which relayed messages between Chicago and Europe through waveguide technology - this allowed American troops fighting overseas to receive news and information directly from their loved ones back home! After WWI ended there was much talk about developing an airport or port within West Bend limits but no action occurred until 1925 when plans were developed for land adjacent to current day US 41 near where KFC stands today! Work began soon after on what would become America's first airfield - “West Bend Municipal Airport”! With increased travel opportunities available due to new highways being built throughout the area west of Milwaukee – including U S 41 – traffic grew significantly at “West bend Municipal Airport”! Today we still enjoy some excellent flight opportunities here at “West bend Municipal Airport” thanks to our nearby partners atMilwaukee International Airport! When Prohibition repealed in 1933 all alcohol sales ceased except for wine which continued under state regulations until 1951 when those Regulations were repealed too!! Consequently many businesses closed down during prohibition period such as grocery stores ( grapes didn't get picked till late october), barber shops etc., leaving very few remnants of that time period behind... localsfolk often reminisce about days gone by with fond memories Of good times spent At bars/restaurants along US 41 especially given THAT NO PROHIBITION LAW APPLIED TO Grapes!!! Even today some folks find enjoyment getting lost inside Many old buildings still stand abandoned but complete with fascinating stories associated w/ them like Opera House which has been completely gutted (& rebuildd 2x) & reoccupied several times; Sticksman Building facing south onto busy US 41 just past Walmart…still going strong tho 😃
The town of West Bend was founded in 1854 by farmers on the east side of the Mississippi River. The first post office was established in 1857, and the town was named for John Benton, a United States Senator from Illinois. In 1870, the town became a city and it has since grown to become one of the largest cities in Wisconsin.
