West Bend, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin located on the Fox River. The population was 8,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. West Bend was platted in 1836 by Nicholas Hennepin and James G. Nichols, brothers who were also investors in the town of Racine. They named their new community after George Washington's home state of Virginia, which they had visited while living in Illinois. The Town of West Bend was organized on December 10, 1836 and took its name from George Washington's home state of Virginia which it had visited while living in Illinois. The first settler to arrive in what would become West Bend was John Denton who arrived on September 25, 1837 and built a log cabin near where he now lives on University Avenue. Denton became one of the earliest residents and helped start up what would become a small town with about 100 residents by 1840 when he bought land for $10 per acre from Jacob Milleringer & Brothers furriers business owners east of Waukesha Creek near present day White Oak Road/Route 476 (now Herrick Drive). In 1852, Isaac Hayes purchased 3 acres (1 km²) within present-day West Bend Township from Nicholas Hennepin for $10 per acre due to his interest in railroad development along the Fox River Valley through that township; this donation formed the nucleus of Hayes' initial land holdings within what would become West Bend Township and continues to be oneof its most significant assets today as parts of many businesses surrounding it including M&M's Hard Candy Company headquarters building across White Oak Road at 3601 Waukesha Ave., west side restaurant One Door Outstanding known as "The Old World" dating back to 1922-1927 (coincidentally also founded by Isaac Hayes), former Racine Elementary School property adjacent to current day Brown Deer Road west side apartment complex called "Homespun" dating back to 1926-1930, numerous other properties throughout much portions or all or some component thereof comprising over 1/2 square mile (0 .75 km²) -today served primarily by professional commuters traveling through South Shore Drive corridor between Racine and Milwaukee via Watertown – making it an important commercial center for agricultural production integral thereto during both high volume periods associated therewith during times when those areas experienced population growth rates outpacing even those now enjoyed by more populous western WI communities such as Milwaukee proper – providing valuable evidence not only illustrating how early settlements grew rapidly but also characterizing them as being southerners molding into northerners thereafter typified thereby by such early pioneers themselves
