The first settler in what is now West Bend was John Snively who arrived on July 17, 1836. At that time it was part of the Town of Milwaukee which was laid out and named by General David Dixon. In 1839, the Town of West Bend was organized when a group of settlers led by John Ziegler moved from Racine to take up land east of present-day South Park and north of Whitefish Creek. They named their new settlement after Holland’s River (now known as Menomonee Falls), which flows through Milwaukee County and empties into Lake Michigan south of Green Bay. In 1845, under pressure from railroad developers, the town voted to annexation by Milwaukee; but due to strong opposition by residents, it declined and reverted back to its own government two years later. On May 14th 1870, while still independent, West Bend became one unit withrawn from Milwaukee County when Wisconsin became a state under the Articles of Confederation following Ulysses S Grant's victory over Abraham Lincoln in the American Civil War. As part as a result both towns were annexed intoMilwaukee County within two years after becoming wards thereof - an event often cited as marking Wisconsin's emergence as a "working-class" U.S.-based democracy during this time period. During World War II much effort went into developing local munitions production for use against Nazi Germany; however little came from this until after war ended in 1945 when local mills closed down due to lack of demand or competition from other more rapidly growing industries such as steel production in postwar America Afterward much manufacturing relapsed back into small scale operations until recently ushered-in computer industry that has since drawn high tech professionals and families seeking quality living close by started bringing about increased economic activity making West Bend Again One Of The Most Prosperous Towns In WI

West Bend, Wisconsin was a Town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and is now part of Appleton. West Bend was founded in 1836 by wealthy settlers from Ohio and Michigan who had come to the area to find new land after the United States were acquired by Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The town lies on the east bank of the Mississippi River, just north of Appleton, and today it is one of the most prosperous small towns in Wisconsin. The rich soil and timber resources that made West Bend such a success led to its nickname "The Land Of The Gilded Cage." In 1892, when Milwaukee became an independent city, West Bend lost its status as a town but continued to prosper as an agricultural center with large cattle drives and other agriculture-related activities. During prohibition, many people from West Bend turned to alcohol trade although some remained sober until prohibition ended in 1933. Today, there are several businesses that focus on health care products or renewable energy (e.g., solar energy).
West Bend is a town in De Pere County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Niles Metropolitan Statistical Area.
