West Bend is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the east side of the Waukesha River. The population was 9,472 at the 2010 census. West Bend is one of six towns in Racine County and it forms part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Area. The first Europeans to explore and map this area were French voyageurs who passed through in 1673-74, but there is no evidence that they ever set foot in what is now West Bend. It was not until 1818 when John Richardson discovered a salt lick on the west bank of the Waukesha River which led him to postulate that this could be an important site for shipping saltwater cargoes up and down the river. However, nothing came of this idea until 1825 when Augustus Davenport sent out his surveyor, George Stephenson, to check out Richardson's claim and found that it was quite correct – indeed, there was a large salt lick right at where Richardson had found it! It wasn't until 1827 when another explorer by the name of John Fitch discovered an even larger salt lick just upstream from where Richardson had landed! This discovery opened up many new opportunities for trade with Native Americans as well as with other parts of Canada because now there were two important sources for fresh water! In fact, it would be over 50 years before any form of railroad connection between these two regions would be made! It wasn't until after America became involved in World War I that things really started happening in West Bend – on July 4th 1917 (the day after America entered into World War I), local residents put together a bandanna flagpole to fly from their homes during patriotic parades throughout town. Although very small in comparison to later flags flown during WWI (e.g., those used by Germany), this initial effort helped encourage others to get involved militarily too! Unfortunately however, within months most all Allied soldiers had turned back home due to trench warfare being more intense than anticipated – leaving West Bend without a single military personnel stationed here during WWI!!! However things changed considerably once hostilities truly began; within weeks everyone knew about German Field Marshal von Hindenburg's plans for an offensive across France so immediately upon learning about this information some people got themselves organized and began building munitions factories near Racine – primarily around Mayodan Park which would become one of world renown thanks to its endless supply lines running directly into Paris!). Although initially unsuccessful due to enemy fire swamping their production efforts (and leading eventually to their closure), by 1918 these plants were producing some incredibly powerful munitions which played a significant role both theatrically (e.g., helping defeat Kaiser Wilhelm II's forces at battlefronts) as well as militarily (e.g., helping turn tide against American forces at Battle Of The Bulge). A number of businesses also flourished during these years including dentists Drury & Mason and grocery store Grocery Outlet; all while people continued working tirelessly day and night just so their families could eat! In 1922 Des Moines-based Menard Cosmetics company moved its manufacturing operations here from downtown Des Moines because available land along Waukesha River made it economically feasible; Menard continues today as one of Racine County’s largest employers still providing high quality cosmetics products today! Today, much like then, life remains busy day AND night especially given our constantly changing economy which has seen more companies move away from Racine county altogether over recent years…..although we continue working hard everyday towards making sure our community stays strong!!

West Bend, Wisconsin was first settled in 1836 by German farmers who had come over the highlands from Minnesota. The town name is derived from a bend in the River Vincennes which forms its border with eastern Illinois. In 1851, West Bend became an incorporated village and in 1916 it became a town. The population of West Bend increased rapidly during World War II because of the production of materials needed for the war effort, especially aluminum. After the war, West Bend experienced a period of growth due to new businesses and residential development. However, today's town has slowed down its rate of growth and is home to just over 1,000 residents. The history of West Bend begins with two settlements: Grafton and Websterville. Grafton was established in 1836 by parents of John Glover and his family while Websterville was founded in 1840 by Gottlieb Friese and his wife Anna Maria Hildebrandt/Friese. both villages were located on what is now called Mississippi Avenue between Park Drive and Market Street- about one mile east of present day West Bend. At their respective founding ceremonies, both villages announced that they would establish themselves as farming communities doing business together under one roof as part of a cooperative venture known as the Western Prairies Company (WPC). This company aimed to improve trade through intra-community commerce among rural farmers across central Illinois region including Decatur County (now Kane County), Iowa Territory (now western Kansas), Indiana Territory (now northern Illinois), Michigan Territory (now southern Michigan)and Canada via land routes extending into Ontario Provincial District (Ontario). The WPC lasted until 1840 when it merged with another agricultural organization known as the Northwestern Prairie Land Company to form the United States Agricultural Society which functioned as a national marketing center for American exports until 1830 when it merged with other agricultural organizations including British North America [British Columbia] Agricultural Society to form British North America [Northern Canada] Agricultural Society which functioned as Canadian middlemen exporting American goods back into North America before becoming defunct in 1860s due to lack of demand for such products within Canada itself following industrialization/progressivism throughout Canadan society
The town of West Bend, Wisconsin was founded in 1854 by men from the village of East Bend. The first store in the town was built on what is now Main Street. The town grew quickly and by 1871 it had a population of 350 people. In 1881, the railroad arrived and soon West Bend became one of its most important communities. It played a major role in the development of the city of Milwaukee and later became an important center for education.
