The first gun targets were placed in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin in 1852. The targets were made of wood and had a hole in the center. They were used by local soldiers to shoot at game. Gunnery schools were also set up in Wauwatosa in the 1850s for cadets to learn how to fire guns. In 1881, the city of Milwaukee built a new gun range on the old Fox Theater site. This allowed residents and visitors to shoot at live ammunition from long distances. In 1905, Wauwatosa became one of the cities that joined the city of Chicago in creating a giant pistol shooting competition called “The World’s Fair”. To commemorate this event, 12 rifles and 50 pistols were donated by Mayor John Prentice to be shot at at various distances at different locations around town.

This growth has led to new development in all directions: from downtown to Mitchell Park near Lake Michigan to North Side hills east of I-94 for commercial purposes only—the "North Side" designation referring to ZIP code 46236—and even further west into unincorporated Wauwatosa County where there are still several annexed villages available for purchase or development by anyone who desires them (e.g., Apple Valley Rancho Industrial Park just outside Wausau). Despite this continuing growth, however, it remains an unremarkable place with few cultural attractions or nightlife options other than pubs/restaurants frequented by locals or visitors looking for something more rustic than typical American suburbs have to offer (although there are some interesting developments taking place nearby). And while there may be some challenges unique to this growing community that can impact residents' quality of life (e.g., traffic congestion), overall it seems like things are going pretty well considering how much progress has been made since 1847!

Wauwatosa, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 24,514 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest town in Racine County and the seventh-largest town in Wisconsin. Wauwatosa is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area and is located on the eastern edge of Milwaukee County. The first settler in what would become Wauwatosa was David Sills in 1837. He built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan near today's park district headquarters. At that time, there were no public schools and most people traveled to nearby Racine for education. Wauwatosa became an incorporated village in 1851 when it had a population of about 100 people. The first post office was established at Wauwatosa on July 1, 1857, by Hiram Haines and James Aveland. The name "Wauwatosa" came from the Dakota word "wáhata", meaning 'place where one could hunt'. According to some sources, Chief Black Hawk led his band of warriors into town during their raid on December 8th, 1846 to punish residents who did not join them in hunting down white settlers who had crossed his land boundary east of Green Bay
Wauwatosa is the largest city in Waukesha County, Wisconsin and the seat of the county government. The population was 50,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
