Wauwatosa, Wisconsin is a city in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Dane County. Wauwatosa was founded in 1854 by German immigrants and has been the second-largest city in Wisconsin since 1959. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first European to visit what is now Wauwatosa was Jean Nicolet, who named it for his farm near present-day Wauwatosa. In 1817, Captain Frederick de Vere explored and mapped the area which would become Dane County and named it for Lord Baltimore's land grant to an uncle of Henry Knox, 1st Earl of Dunmore on November 16, 1792. In 1854, when Milwaukee was founded as a town by David Wells Fargo and others, Wauwatosa became its first municipality. On January 24 of that year it elected John Dill as its first mayor. The following year (1855) it annexed Dutch Village south of town; this annexation caused some alarm because there were fears that Wauwatosa might be left behind should Milwaukee gain control over that portion of the country allotted to Holland through its treaty with France in 1814 which ended the Napoleonic Wars between Europe and America Dane County was created on March 4th., 1907 from parts of Milwaukee and Kewaunee counties When Milwaukee lost its charter as a city on December 12th., 1896 due to financial problems - including pollution concerns - most residents voted to keep their village status quo untilMayor John Fenton convinced them to give up their right to elect officials before becoming cities again on February 2nd., 1897 under new democratic government regulations

Marquette called this area Prairie du Jour because it looked like a new place where everything had just begun—a place where Indian corn could be gathered without being burned and where water could be found without having to be dug wells. In 1836, John Crain established an agricultural colony on land that would later become part of Wauwatosa. The town began as a small farm community near present day North First Street and West Washington Avenue, with six homes and 200 acres (80 hectares) of land occupied by Crain’s family before he died in 1853 at age 74 years old. In 1857 when Wauwatosa became an incorporated village after passage by the state legislature of Act 286 under then-Governor Andrew Johnson, all residents were required to wear white clothing during elections so that citizens knew who controlled their government; this also created a sense of civic duty among those living within easy reachof political powerbrokers outside town limits During World War II local industries produced items such as munitions and vehicles used by both American forces and Nazi troops stationed around Germany; these factories closed during peacetime but reopened after 1945 as part of the post-war economic boom aided by stimulus programs administered jointly by both US President Franklin D Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill Allison Jameson developed a process for manufacturing plastics using coal tar which led eventually to production line operations at various companies throughout Northwestern WI until 1979 when Allis Trading Company merged with DuPont Corporation creating what are today Dow Chemical Co., Midland Chemical Co., Phelps Dodge & Sons Inc., Union Carbide Corp., Altai Resources Incorporated - now Ariadne Energy plc A parade celebrating Women's History Month kicks off celebrations at City Hall on Saturday morning Juli 5th 2019 7:00am
The first settlers in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin were Germans who arrived in 1848. They built a log cabin and started farming. The town was founded in 1853 by John M. Dickey and named for General David Dixon, the hero of the Battle of Buena Vista.
