Wauwatosa, Wisconsin is a town in Milwaukee County,Wisconsin, United States. The population was 22,636 at the 2010 census. It is the sixth most populous municipality in Milwaukee County and the second most populous city in Milwaukee County after its neighbor to the south,Milwaukee. Wauwatosa is included within the Downtown area of Milwaukee. The first settlers to what is now Wauwatosa were Englishman John Green and his wife Elizabeth Cook who arrived in 1792 from England on a ship called "John Washington." They erected a log cabin near wherepresent-day North Park Boulevard meets Michigan Avenue. In 1837 they built a house on present-day West Side Drive which served as their home until they sold it to James Prentice in 1865. He then sold it to Augustus Chappell who built him an addition on top which still stands today (1914). The City of Wauwatosa was formed by combining two villages: Wauwatosa Township and Oak Creek Township. On January 1, 1907, those two townships were combined into one village under the name of Wauwatosa. On July 1, 1914 that village became part of the new city of Milwaukee when it was annexed by that city. On July 14th 1957, construction began on what would become one of America's largest shopping centers when Sears Roebuck & Co., later Sears Corporation announced plans for a $250 million development called “The CityCenter” across downtown from their existing headquarters at 5200 N Western Ave., now known as Sears Tower (formerly Kress GmbH Building). preliminary drawings showed that up to 400 stores could be located within 10 blocks of each other inside a mixed use district with high-rise buildings surrounding it totaling more than 2 million square feet (100,000 m²) including four hotels/resorts/gaming dens and up to 130 acres (50 ha) of parkland – making it one of North America's largest planned suburban shopping center developments ever conceived or completed! At its completion in 1969 over 4500 people worked there creating some 53% of all manufacturing jobs in downtown Milwaukee! The CityCenter never grew beyond its original plan; however recent redevelopment has brought many anchor tenants including Menards department store moved out and replaced by Target mall having created over 1000 new jobs during this time according to 2018 data!

Wauwatosa, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Winnebago County. The population was 34,865 at the 2010 census, making it the fifth-largest city in Wisconsin and one of its five metropolitan areas. It is also the second-largest city in Dane County after Madison. Wauwatosa is located on the edge of Lake Michigan about 12 miles (19 km) south of downtown Milwaukee and about 26 miles (41 km) north of Oshkosh,Wisconsin's largest city. The first settlers in what is now Wauwatosa were people from eastern Canada who came overland through Manitoba to live near Lake Michigan when that area was still part of British North America. They named their new village "Neenah" after their daughter who had been born there on July 24, 1836. A post office called Neenah was established in 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1881, the Village Developers' Association purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) east of town for $1 per acre (0.50 Prototype cents). This site became known as "The Woods". The first building erected on this land was a log cabin built by John Sweeny during1881–82 as an agricultural experiment station led by Professor George Stephenson Smith at his then current site just east of downtown Wauwatosa; Stephenson Park today occupies that spot! In 1905, developers organized into a company to develop land within town limits adjacent to present day Midtown Center – which included much more recent development including: the modern FirstMerit Bank Building now occupied by The Kress Company and other buildings dating back to 1906 are now used for apartments or commercial purposes such as Booksmith’s Sporting Goods store/cafeteria/amusement park which opened along Main Street in 1955! On February 9th 1909 local citizens applied for creationof a public works district surrounding town limits – with authorization from then-Governor Theodore Roosevelt! On March 3rd 1913 Wauwatosa became home to its first municipal waterworks system with two pumping stations located on Cass Avenue northeast cornering Northwestern Road!! With these accomplishments our community began its long journey towards becoming one OF THE GREATEST CITIES IN AMERICA!!!
The town of Wauwatosa was founded in 1857 by John P. Hartwig and others. The town's first store was built on the corner of State and South Streets. The first post office was established in Wauwatosa in 1859. In 1870, the town plat was filed and Wauwatosa became a borough. In 1903, the name of the borough was changed toWauwatosa Township and then toWauwatosa City in 1969.
