In 1847, Wauwatosa was founded by John S. Paddock and his brother Amos. In 1853, Wauwatosa became a city when it was annexed by Milwaukee. The first gunsmith in town was Jonas Weisbrot who manufactured pistols and rifles. He also made barrels for the new guns being produced in Milwaukee at that time. In 1859, Gustavus Cramer opened a gunsmith shop in town and began making barrels for the new revolvers being produced in Wisconsin. This company continued to produce barrels until 1899 when it closed down due to lack of business. In 1916, Edwin Haggerty opened agunsmith shop in town and continued making Barrels until he retired in 1965. Then, from 1966 to 1984, John Fenton operated the shop until he closed it down due to health problems.
Wauwatosa, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 27,824 as of the 2010 census. It is the third-most populous town in Milwaukee County and the twelfth most populous municipality in Milwaukee County. The name "Wauwatosa" means "place where walnuts grow." The first settler to arrive on these shores was David Wiman, who landed onJune 2, 1836, near what is now downtown Wauwatosa. Wiman's family had earlier traveled through southern Michigan and Illinois looking for land to farm so they could provide food for their families and support themselves and other travelers on their way back east from the Great Lakes region during that era of travelogue and discovery. On November 15, 1838, Adam Kilham settled near present day Daybreak Drive in what is now eastern Wauwatosa Township after purchasing two hundred acres (0.81 km2) from John Drexel at $6 per acre (2/3 dozen bushels). Kilham named his new settlement homesite Prairie du Chien because it would offer plenty of shade during summer months while he developed his land into a home farmstead with six barns, twenty-one cows, four horses and one plow yielding eighty bushels of corn each—the maximum amount an early American farmer could hope to harvest in a year due to cooler weather then prevailing along the Great Lakes shoreline at that time. By 1840 Kilham had increased production by building seven additional barns and adding another sixty-four acres (26 hectares) onto his holdings when he sold off all but three thousand acres (1/4 km2) worth of land within five years following purchase; this included what is now western Harrison Township adjacent to Milwaukee County’s north border today In 1843 John Prentice moved from Lanna Hallock’s houseboat located just south of Green Bay across Lake Michigan into what became known as “Prentice’s Grove” which stretched along East Water Street between South Fourth Street (now Tomkins Road)and North Third Streetdebugging ground for future Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company buildings later completed there by noted architect William integer In 1850 Charles Sheboygan bought 248 acres (11 hectare)[9] extending northeasterly from Whitefish Point on Menominee River towards Ravenna Avenue NW before turning south onto Hersey BoulevardNW [10][11] finally reaching its current course approximately one mile east of downtown Wauwatosa . From here northwesterly growth accelerated as pioneers encountered tributaries such as Des Moines River flowing through or paralleling Chicago area politics during mid 19th century Elections coincided with growing real estate values especially in downtown areas like this providing fertile ground for political bribery rackets gaining criminal underworld notoriety characterized by some as “Dirty Dozen Politics” ..... One key player involved in early days of organized crime activity located here - Frank Costello - Eventually led FBI investigation called “The Profits Gang” which targeted major organized crime figures including Meyer Lansky
