When the first Europeans arrived in what is now Wauwatosa, Wisconsin in 1642 they were unaware of the Native American cultures that thrived here. The area was part of the great Lakes region and there were many small villages dotting the landscape. One such village was Fox Lake, located near modern-day Milwaukee. In 1795, French soldiers under General Marquette discovered a large fur trade post at Fox Lake and soon learned about the local hunting and trading routes that led to this important site. The Postmaster General at Ottawa ordered Captain John Davenport to establish a post at Fox Lake in order to better serve Canada’s fur traders. Davenport quickly realized the potential for this new site and began scouting for an optimal location for his post. He found a perfect spot on present-day Wauwatosa Creek where he built his first post office in 1800. The original fortifications at Fox Lake were temporary until 1815 when General Anthony Wayne established Fort Dearborn as one of three military posts along the Great Lakes system within Illinois Territory. After years of construction, Dearborn was completed in 1827 and served as a model for later U.S.-Canada frontier posts. When it became clear that Detroit would become America’s main economic center after its incorporation into Michigan in 1834, Governor William Benton authorized Major George Armstrong Custer to create a garrison at Fort Dearborn to protect American traders from British aggression on the northwestern frontier. Because Ontario was part of Canada until Confederation in 1867, Custer had no legal power over Michigan territory which restricted his military operations east of Mackinac Island (now Muskegon County). In response to these threats, senior Canadian officials decided that Wauwatosa would be an ideal town for their new capital city because it fit well within Canadan society with its rich cultural heritage and elegant architecture dating back centuries. On July 1st, 1868, Toronto became Canada’s new capital following the merger of Upper Canada and Lower Canada into one province under Queen Victoria’s rule. At first glance, Wauwatosa may have seemed like an odd choice as both Toronto and Montreal had more populous populations but Canadan officials thought that this rural community would be able to support their new capital city without becoming overwhelmed by its larger neighbor! As it turns out, they were correct; Wauwatosa flourished during its early years despite having few paved streets or central business district like other major Canadian cities! During World War I (1914-18),Wauwatosa made significant contributions through its production of munitions and clothing for troops on both sides of the conflict including uniforms worn by Ulysses S Grant during his celebrated “I can't stop' speech at Gettysburg Address! In 1939-1945 (the Second World War),Wauwatoso played an important role as headquarters for Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force flying strategic missions over Europe while also providing supplies and services to local communities below ground! Today,Wauwatosa has emerged as one of Americas most vibrant downtown neighborhoods with exciting cultural attractions such as galleries, theaters,. restaurants,. bars,. events . . . ."

Wauwatosa was founded by William Waugh on November 9, 1853 as a small community located on the east side of the Kettle River. In 1875, it became a town and in 1907 it became a city after voters passed an act to that effect. The city's economy is based primarily on manufacturing and service businesses with main economic sectors being information technology, health care, education and professional services. There are also several small businesses in the banking and insurance industries which have contributed to Wauwatosa's strong economy over many years. A number of notable landmarks include: Wauwatosa High School (now Winthrop) which has been home to many top-level athletes including basketball players John Stockton III and Michael Jordan; Waugh Park which is home to both Thetis Arena ice rink and The Wisconessphere water park; and Main Street Stadium which hosts local high school football games as well as concerts throughout the year for residents and visitors alike The city has also become known for its annual farmer's market held each spring in Downtown Wauwatosa from April through July attracting more than 100 vendors from around Door County

Wauwatosa is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. Wauwatosa was incorporated on November 3, 1856. Wauwatosa is located on the east side of the Chicago River and straddles what was once an unincorporated community called West Side Prairie. The first settler in what is now Wauwatosa was John Pemberton who arrived in 1837. John's brother David also settled here in 1837 and erected a log cabin near present-day Main Street and Brown Road. This early settlement was known as Pine Grove because many of the trees were found there during construction of Fort Dearborn which later became Milwaukee. The first post office in this area was established at Pine Grove on October 15, 1839 by Jonas Page from Ridgefield Connecticut with six others including Major John Lillis chose to form a village for this purpose under the same name but no site ultimately been chosen for it due to lack of space or other considerations at that time. In 1840 Captain James Swan set up a trading post adjacent to present-day Main Street where he had land leased from Nicholas Waterman which included most of what is now Wauwatosa. Swan's Post attracted fur traders and their families who would travel through this area survey new land for sale back then as they did today with help from Indian guides when traveling through these parts on their way to trade with Native American groups living nearby such as the Potawatomi tribe headquartered south of Green Bay along Lake Michigan’s eastern shoreline On July 24, 1841 Captain Swan sold his land north ofMain Street to George Kieft Jr., one of only two men ever to own property contiguous with downtown Milwaukee proper within city boundaries at that time In 1846 Isaac Brock built a small frame house on what are now 2nd Avenue and Brown Road nearpresent day Park Drive In 1850 Josiah Best built another small frame house next door (later known as Best House) which still stands today across 2nd Avenue fromthe current Kane Brothers grocery store On February 10th,1852 Isaac Brock purchased Best House from JosiahBest for $2 per acre John Aiken purchased Best House from Isaac Brock on March 1st for $4 per acre One year later German immigrant Johann Gottlieb Wagener arrived here also settling around this time and started making wagons out of boughs taken down locally off local oak trees He named his wagon company “Nelson & Son” after himself and his son Nelson Later he moved westward buying more land until he reached what became Beaver Dam Springs where he build another home before moving further west again into Adams County sometime between 1860-1870 After purchasing some more land here he founded “Nelson & Son” Jewelers shop located at 4608 S Holland Ave WI 53536 We continued operations until 1984 when we closed our doors forever
Wauwatosa, Wisconsin was founded in 1847 by Nicholas W. Merrill and his wife Sarah. The city is named for the beautiful waterfall that can be seen from many parts of the city. The area around Wauwatosa was heavily forested before settlers arrived, so much so that the first town meeting didn’t take place until May 1, 1800. The name “Wauwatosa” comes from a Ojibwe word meaning “the great falls” and refers to the falls on the Menomonee River.
