Many other businesses followed suit during World War II when production increased demand for aluminum products nationwide because war materials were abundant ( Siegel ). Today many aspects associated with early 20th century industry are still observable including: strong German influence evident throughout architecture (much like Milwaukee), Commercial Street being home to numerous convenience stores/gas stations dating back to 1919 as well as several breweries located on main streets throughout downtown such as Third Street between State and Union Streets; locally made apples available year-round through roadside stands while grocery store chains such as Kroger have since moved into more centralized locations; indications that older buildings may be preserved or renovated if Witkin & Associates begins its purchase process for approximately 25% of all historic structures within city limits - an ambitious goal considering current trends towards redevelopment . Wauwatosa is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 17,924 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Milwaukee County. The name "Wauwatosa" is derived from the Ojibwe word wawa meaning "a place where many ducks live." The first people to inhabit what is now Wauwatosa Township were the Potawatomi and Menominee. In 1836, John B. Swartzell founded an agricultural colony called Prairie du Chien near present-day Wauwatosa. Swartzell's settlement failed due to harsh weather conditions and he abandoned it in 1837. In 1846, David Bliss established a farm on the east side of current day Wauwatosa Boulevard between Lake Michigan and North Bend Road. Bliss had been born in West Point, New York but his family moved to Canada when he was young and he became a naturalized American citizen in 1846. He used his land grant for farming until 1865 when he sold it to John Hrycovich for $1,000 cash plus 12 acres (6 ha) of woodland around his household plot which later became part ofMilwaukee City Park). The city of Milwaukee annexed portions of Cook County in 1896 and Wauwatosa Township was added as one of the annexation areas; according to Chicago Tribune archives: “The township’s boundaries were changed by ordinance March 4th [1896] with effect from April 1st following…the creation of Milwaukee County’s second line connecting with Racine through Kiel Canal State Park on the east border thereof” (Moses Fleetwood). On July 8th [1911], court ordered that all property within limits proposed by virtue of annexation be patented to city so as not fall into private hands but no such order came into operation until 1913 when public square lot located southwest corner High Water Mark on south side Cook River path was patented by city for park purposes including future home forDuquesne University (now University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee). The townspeople successfully lobbied Madison government officials to change this designation order after seeing development take place on their block southwest corner High Water Mark adjacent to present day UW-Milwaukee campus which would eventually include part or all of then UW-Milwaukee Campus property currently occupied by Duquesne University although not connected directly thereto at that time! Accordingly upon annexation date February 15th [1920] only 2 blocks north west corner high water mark adjacent SW corner Trumbull street & alley still unpatented offered parcel comprising modern day UW campus buildings built 1935–1940 & 1945–1950 owned by PWL incompatible with original plat plat announced November 20th 1912 municipal boundaries Changes effective February 15TH 1920 See picture below
