From 1907 through 1959, allscope mounts were made under the name "WRA." In 1959, Winchester Repeating Arms Company merged with Remington Industries Incorporated to becomeRemington Rand Corporation. At Remington Rand Corporation, allscope mounting was discontinued except for shotguns which continued to be produced under the name "WRA." As part of the merger process, some oldScope MountCompany of Wausau products were sold off to other companies including Medusa Products Corp., who renamed them "Olympian" products; North American Optics who changed their designation to "American Optics"; and Hannet-Hanson Manufacturing Co., Inc., who became known as Haley's Manufacturing Co.. In 1992, REMINGTON RAND CORPORATION ceased operations due tolloric bankruptcy proceedings and all remaining firearms production was transferred from Rochester New York to Miami Florida where it continues today as United States Armory Inc..

In 1847, part of Wausau Township was merged into Racine County; another part was annexed into Milwaukee County in 1870. By 1890, all of eastern Wausau Township had been annexed into Milwaukee County as well as most of western Racine County east of its current border with Milwaukee County (which included parts of Green Bay). When Milwaukee COUNTY seceded from Wisconsin in 1896, eastern Wausaun Township remained within Milwaukee COUNTY but continued to use the name "Wausau". In 1923, much of central and southern Wausaucand Townships were detached from Milwaukee COUNTY to form Racine County because its citizens wanted more control over their affairs than they felt they could get from their larger neighbors in north-central Wisconsin who still bore some resemblance to English farmers

Wausau has a humid continental climate (Köppen Climate Classification "Dfb"), abbreviated "Dfa" on most maps due to high humidity levels year-round even in cold months like winter (above 50%). Average monthly temperatures range from about 20 degrees Fahrenheit in January to about 85 degrees Fahrenheit in July; on average, precipitation ranges from about two inches per month at night until more than six inches per month during summer months (>120 mm).
In 1847, the first wave of European immigrants to Wausau arrived with land grants from the government. The town was originally called "Wausau," but it was changed in 1854 to honor General David Dixon, who had fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1865, Wausau became a city and was renamed after Samuel J. Watt, an early settler. Watt served as mayor from 1879 to 1886 and as a United States Senator from Wisconsin from 1893 to 1897.
