After Champlain's visit, French traders began trading with Indians along the Kankakee River basin where they founded villages such as Ottawa (now Ottawa County) and Menomonee Falls around 1720-1722 under leaders like Chouteau and Marquette; some settlements continued until after 1834 when most were abandoned because of malaria scares which caused heavy loss in trade due to lack of immunity against it among early settlers living near waterbodies accessible only by boat or canoe. Some barns also survive still standing today such as Oneida Barn #5 located just outside Of Wausao village limits next door to original homebuilt stockade fencestill standing much like farm animals roam today inside ) Starting out as simple family farms each grew larger becoming lumberjacks shipping logs down river valley supplying mills throughout Midwest markets duruing 19th century followed by oil refineries production during 20th century giving rise name “ Petroleum City” During Prohibition era much alcohol was produced here filling Progressive Doherty Brewery building still extant on Main Street behind pizzeria prioritizes beer over wine making till demolition completed in 2013) Priorities shifted towards truck manufacturing/export beginning around 1990s associated with postindustrial decline resulting major suburban sprawl created since 1970s characterized by high levels OF noise pollution , climate change , poor public transportation access , incarceration rates etc .)
