Waupun, Wisconsin is a town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 997 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Wisconsin Metropolitan Area. Waupun was founded in 1873 by German immigrants and is named after the nearby community of Waukesha. The first post office in Waupun was established on December 12, 1875. The name of the town came from nearby Waukesha which had been named for Johann Georg Wagener, an early settler in what is now Door County. In 1903, construction began on a dam on the Menomonee River to create Lake Michigan near present-day Waupun. This led to increased development around the lake and caused much conflict between those who wanted to keep their property within bounds of the new city limits and those who desired access to what they saw as an expanding water supply. The Dam issue would continue to be a source of contention until finally resolved by referendum in 1959 when residents approved annexation into Milwaukee proper. In 1954, Drury College opened its doors in downtown Waupun with Classes starting on October 1st milestone that still stands today as one of college’s earliest achievements In 1957-1958 there was only one car dealership in town so lots were scarce however over time more and more are built A new shopping center has replaced most of downtown business before being filled up with housing units some years later

Waupun is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,818 at the 2010 census. Waupun was founded in 1854 by Danish immigrants, and it is the second-oldest incorporated community in Milwaukee County. It is on the north side of the city of Milwaukee and east of the city's downtown area. The first settlers to Waupun were Danish farmers who arrived from Denmark around 1854. They named their new town after their native country, Waunee (now part of Minnesota). In 1857, a group of Swedes settled in what is now Waupun; they initially called it Neshwaqua. The name "Neshwaqua" may be derived from the Dakota word echota (meaning "place where there are two rivers"). In 1865, when Wisconsin became a state, Neshwaqua changed its name to Waupun and remained that way for many years. In 1897, Jens Jensen launched his successful meatpacking business in what is now the corner store on North Seventh Street near Main Avenue outside of today's Town Hall building. That same year also saw the opening of Waupun’s first school – an academy which served grades K-12 until 1922 when attendance began expanding to include high school students as well as adults who could not attend local schools due to lack of space or financial hardship. Jens Jensen donated land adjacent to his business lot for use as a public school campus which opened in 1903 with additions through 1912 including an auditorium/hall and gymnasium/gymnastics studio; these facilities remain extant today as part of nearby Park High School . A fire destroyed most of Jens Jensen’s property on June 15th 1909 but heFortunately no one was injured during this tragic event . During World War I , many men from Waupunkn enlisted and served with distinction within our great military Wauconda Dam site remains important even today because it provides drinking water for much of Milwaukee County while at the same time providing flood control protection for eastern Brookfield Today we observe Labor Day weekend - America's largest tourist weekend - which includes several events such as concerts at Memorial Stadium and significant cultural attractions throughout towns throughout southeastern Wisconsin
In 1847, the first white settler in Waupun was John S. Aldrich. The town was named for Captain James W. Walpole of the United States Navy who had died in a shipwreck on the shores of Lake Michigan ten years earlier. The first post office was established in 1848, and Waupun became a village in 1857. It lost its charter as a village in 1903 but regained it during World War I when it merged with neighboring Muskegon Heights. In 1948, Waupun became an incorporated city and remains so to this day.
