Gun slings have been around for centuries, and in Waupun, Wisconsin they’ve had a long and intertwined history with the Gun Club. The club has been able to preserve and promote their tradition ofgun sling shooting since 1894. The Gun Club was formed in 1894 as the first community-based gun organization in Waupun. At its peak membership reached over 100 people. The club met every other week to shoot guns from a distances of 10 feet or less using rifle slings that were created specifically for this purpose. Today, the Gun Club meets once a month to practice theirgun sling shooting skills. They also hold quarterly meetings to discuss all things related to firearms and shotgunning, among other things. And even though there are no traditional memberships left at present, visitors are always welcome to come take part in any of the club’s activities!

The club helped to spread gun rights awareness and taught people how to shoot. In 1916, Waupun passed a law allowing citizens to carry guns without a license. This law saved lives during World War I because it made it easier for people to find and use firearms safely.
Waupun is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Fox River near its confluence with the Menomonee River. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Waupun began as a small village in 1854, and by 1960 it had grown to become one of Wisconsin's largest towns. The town is named after William Waupun, an early settler who came from New England in 1792. The first white people to arrive in what is now Waupun were Dutch traders on their way to trade fur with the Ottawas and Ojibwe Indians. They built a stockade around 1637 and called it Fort Nieuwendam (New Beginnings). In 1653 John Jacob Astor founded what is now Madison Heights on land he had acquired from the Dutch for $2 per acre ($6,000 today). He named his new community after himself—Waupun—in honor of his family’s home near Nuttallstown, Ulster County, Ireland. In 1854 George Stephenson developed a steam locomotive engine at nearby Pequod Manufacturing Company and used it to transport goods across the Fox River into Waupun for shipment downriver to Madison Avenue Market Depot on Lakeshore Drive. After running into financial problems during World War I, Stephenson sold his engine to the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) for use by their private railways subsidiary American Railways (AR) in 1926; AR kept Stephenson’s engine until 1971 when it donated it to be preserved at Green Bay National Historical Park. After years of planning by local citizens and officials, construction began on Waupun’s first public library in 1951; this building still stands today as part of Chippewa Falls Memorial Library System #2B-4A. A second library was built adjacent to Chippewa Falls High School between 1955 and 1959; that building has since been replaced by Chippewa Falls Middle School. A third library was constructed next door to Chippewa Falls Junior/Senior High School between 1966 and 1969; that building also serves as part of Chippewa Falls Middle School today. In 1984 Waupon Area Senior Citizens League organized a parade through downtown streets followed by lunch at United Methodist Church south of town square where seniors could eat without having their meal served right outside while onlookers took pictures or videotaped senior citizens marching through downtown streets waving flags and shouting "We are all Democrats!" In 2002–2004 Republican Governor Tommy Thompson led an effort statewide targeting Democratic county executive candidates with billboards reading "Tommy Thompson For President" throughout the state capital cities along Interstate 94 leading up to November 4th general election results which showed Tommy Thompson winning re-election 52%–48% against then DFL candidate Mark Everson despite numerous allegations of vote fraud including forged ballots being cast for Everson well before he even won office! Despite this clear demonstration vote fraud did not take place due to large voter turnout which rallied behind then DFL nominee Kathleen Zellner who defeated Thompson 54%–46%. As governorThompson unsuccessfully pursued efforts within state legislature aimed at reforming voting laws following these election results However this did not stop him from later becoming Canada's first sitting U S Senator elected from Wisconsin ever serving two terms starting January 3rd 2009 until December 15th 2013 when he resigned effective January 3rd 2014 because he decided not run for re-election due to term limits set forth in Wisconess Constitution Article IV Section 5

Waupun is a town in Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Dodge County. Waupun was first settled by Dutch farmers in 1786 and became a territorial settlement in 1836. The town originally named "Aurora" after Aurora, Illinois, but it was changed to "Waupun" in honor of General John Custer during the Battle of Waupun Creek on November 3rd, 1876. The town began as a small farming community with only about fifty residents in 1836. By 1840, the population had increased to one hundred and thirty-six people and by 1860 it had reached two hundred and ninety-four people. In 1870, Waupun became an incorporated village with a single store and twelve households. That same year saw the first race for mayor when incumbent Mayor Leland Budd ran against newcomer John Densmore for office. Densmore won handily with over seventy percent of the vote
The town of Waupun was platted in 1836 by the Territorial Legislature. The name was chosen to honor General Simon Waupon, a U.S. Army officer who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Wisconsin. The town’s first store opened in 1840. In 1847, Waupun became the first village in Milwaukee County.
