Waupun is a village in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Waupun is part of the Milwaukee–Waupaca–Stout Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Waupun was Nicholas Wagner in 1836. By 1840, there were 11 residents living in the village. In 1854, Waupun united with neighboring Olmsted Township to form Racine County. The first courthouse was built in Waupun in 1858 and served as the county seat until it burned down in 1865. However, due to its location on the border of two counties, Waupun continued to serve as both county seat and judicial center until it was replaced by Milwaukee in 1907. In 1892, a post office called "Wauskamp" was established at the junction of federal road Kettle Creek Road and state highway 2 east of present-day town of Wadsworth; however, postal service never reached this community because President George Washington refused to recognize Iowa's statehood until after his inauguration on March 4th that year. On December 15th 1870, settlers from Menomonee Falls named their new settlement "Wadsworth" after General John Forbes who had galloped through that town during an unsuccessful attempt to suppress piracy off America's western coast during the Mexican War (1846-48). It should be noted that earlier settlements such as Menomonee Falls were spelled with one letter only such as "Mendota". Anyway for many years Wadsworth served as an alternate name for what is now Waupun Village along with other nearby villages including Appleton (now occupied by Racine) and Kenosha (now part of Milwaukee). Although land grants were issued throughout much of Wisconsin beginning around 1800 Block No I - approximately where present day downtown Waupaca sits - no townsite or site has been identified within modern boundaries of either Racine or Wauspunkt clusters dating back over 100 years! This could be chalked up to numerous factors including original settleings’ penchant towards tent camping and/or hitching rides instead thereof before more permanent structures came into being; however documentary evidence suggests otherwise especially given current aerial photo evidence depicting open fields bordering both villages which could easily have been used for civic services like churches or schools quite some time ago! A few hints about possible early locating sites can be gleaned from various place namesakes which dot local geography today: For example – aside from “Watertown” – known locations associated with early German Settlers include “Hahndorf” near Oshkosh; “Thiensburg/Heidelberg” located just north of Green Bay; etcetera….. Additionally evidence suggests early residents may have included fishermen who ventured out into Lake Michigan looking for fish noteworthy enough to warrant using a specific spot on shoreline rather than randomly grabbing whatever lay around! Most intriguingly all five aforementioned places listed above hold officialWisconsin Historical Marker titles which suggest they likely received recognition at some point….. After all these years later we can still see traces OF THESE EARLY SITE LOCATIONS……………. Although admittedly not every prospect cited herein warrants further exploration our hope is that this paper will provide readership & historians alike WITH SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT WHEN PLANNING THEIR OWN DISCUSSION OF THIS VERY IMPORTANT CIVIL WAR TIDEBELT……… According to the 2000 census there are 1,564 people living in Waupun village proper while 3 unincorporated areas surround it totalizing 914 people inhabiting 547 dwellings making up a 30% rural-70% urban population ratio according to 2006 American Community Survey Estimates generated by UW-Milwaukee Population Studies Unit following instructions provided by village officials themselves! Of note here another oft cited statistic claiming 33% active military personnel residing withinVillage limits backs up research performed by then Director Jeff Skolnick himself revealing how even though portions surroundingthe Village offer high levels*of biodiversity* none inhabitants ever reported having any negative interactions whatsoever w/ Military Personnel stationed therein……………. According ECONOMIC INDicators compiled annuallyby Army Corps Of Engineers District 8 unit operating out of Manitowoc Wis….. That pretty much sums things up folks……………. * Note: These stats reflect active duty ONLY members currently serving withinVillemystical AREA boundaries not retirees 🙂

Today, many historic buildings and sites are located within walking distance of either downtown or central Waupun. One of the most significant moments for Waupun came when Local 4th Ward Alderman Ishmael Joffe successfully ran for office as a Democrat against Republican incumbent David O’Brien on November 3, 1896. This victory helped to solidify local Democratic support and paved the way for future political success by Alderman Joffe and others who followed him into politics over time
Waupun is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, and the namesake of Waupun Bridge. The first settler in the town was Levi Sweetman in 1839. Waupun became a town on December 15, 1852, when it was removed from Portage County to Walker County. It lost its status as a town on January 1, 1903, when it merged with Greenfield to form the present-day city of Greenfield.
