Additionally, there are several private schools within Waunakee township: Beechwood Academy(K-2nd grade), Cedar Ridge Prepatory School(3rd through 5th grade), Deerfield Christian Academy(6 th - 8 th grade), Forest Grove Jr./Sr High School(9 th - 11 th grades) and Meadowbrook Lutheran Church Rural Kindergarten/First Grade school(0 - 3 years old). There is also one private hospital within Waunakee township: St John's HealthCare Center which provides care for both adults and children from preemies to seniors inpatient operate as well as outpatient services such as surgery/emergency room visits/cardiology appointments/foot exams/flu shots etc...

Waunakee is a small town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 21 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Waukesha County. The first people to inhabit what is now Waunakee were the Chippewa tribe. They built their first village there in 1836 and named it Kettle Falls after a nearby kettle of water. The town site was chosen because it was well located for hunting game and fishing in the surrounding area. The name "Waunakee" derives from the Ojibwa word "wanka", meaning place where berries grow abundantly. In 1851, Captain John JamesONAS set out from Milwaukee with ninety soldiers to acquire land east of Milwaukee for a new state capital. He reached Waunakee on October 10, 1851, and pronounced the name " Wanaka". The original brick courthouse still stands today as part of downtown Waunakee's Main Street district. In 1862, General George Armstrong Custer arrived at Prairie du Chien and camped near present-day Waunakee on September 26th while supplies were being unloaded from his army's advance column across the river at Portage la Prairie. On October 3rd he ordered all available troops into camp at this location to protect against possible Sioux attack during his march through Minnesota that night INTO THE HOLD OF THE SIOUXES! A cannon shot heard by Custer caused him to order his detachment back upriver before they could be attacked; that night he reached Fort Snelling safely without any fight or casualties! In 1871, due to declining populations in both Chicago and Milwaukee, Illinois offered $10 per acre for property west of its city limits in Dane County, Wisconsin; this offer was accepted by local farmers who had been cultivating western lands since early 1800s. When Congress made an appropriations bill for 1870 which allocated $2 million dollars specifically for State Capital Improvements (now known as State Parks), Wanaka included within that appropriation “the Site of Wanaka Village” – thus becoming one of only two towns in Wisconsin when such money was allocated (the other being Appleton). By 1872 over 350 residents had relocated to Wanaka including 45% women!!! One reason why so many people moved there during this time period might have been because business opportunities were opening up along Lake Michigan with ships coming and going between Chicago and Milwaukee; jobs that would have been hard to come by if residents remained in their villages or towns
Waunakee was first settled in 1837 by a group of Methodist missionaries. The town was named for the Waunakee River, which flows through the community. In 1851, a sawmill and gristmill were built in Waunakee. In 1870, Waunakee became a borough. On July 1, 1903, the town merged with neighboring Union to form Waukesha County.
