Waukesha, Wisconsin is a city in the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 30,936 at the 2010 census. Waukesha is the largest city in Milwaukee County and one of its seven county seats. It is also part of the Chicago–Milwaukee–Racine Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Waukesha" is from Potawatomi word "waca," meaning place where Muskrats live. The first European settlers in what would become Waukesha were French traders who established a fur trading post on the Racine River in 1764. In 1812, John Pohl bought land east of present-day Waukesha from Manuel Sahm and erected a cabin near present-day North Avenue and State Street. By 1828, Waukesha had developed into a small town with over 100 residents when it became a village charter under the leadership of John Fenton on May 12, 1829. In 1847, Nicholas Wisniewski founded Wisniewski & Company which built mills along the Maysville and Kenosha Rivers for flour production and export to Europe and then beyond. The company grew rapidly through acquisitions by other capitalists until it reached its peak output in 1865 when it produced $40 million worth of flour product alone including exports to England ($14 million), France ($10 million), Belgium ($8 million) and Holland (€6 million). In 1912 Wisniewski retired from his business interest but continued to be involved with civic affairs as an elected official including serving as mayor from 1918 to 1922; he also served as director general of education for Milwaukee County from 1919 to 1923. He died March 2, 1942 at age 90 years old following a long illness that began two weeks earlier at his home on West Side Highway (now Interstate 94) in Racine after being rushed there after becoming critically ill while driving back home from vacation at Lake Michigan's Montrose Beach Resort Casino near Green Bay

Waukesha, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Milwaukee County. The population was 118,828 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Wisconsin after Milwaukee and Madison. It is also one of the most populous cities in America. Waukesha's history goes back to 1835 when John Fitch built a log cabin on this site as part of his farmstead west of present-day Waukesha Avenue. In 1854, JS Furman started a flour mill on this site which became one of the largest flour mills in America and still operates today. The first electric light came to Waukesha in 1901 from the Scherer Electric Company Line No. 2 across Costello Street from what is now downtown Waukesha; it was wired for power by Nikola Tesla and opened to the public on November 3, 1901. The current Main Street Bridge (built 1913) links downtown with North Side neighborhoods along Lake Michigan shoreline before turning east towards State Park followed by an approach through downtown that includes First Hill Park before crossing North Ave into town center where North Side streets enter Downtown Drive (the old name for main street). By 2000, there were over 300 businesses located inside or near Downtown such as Sears Department Store and First National Bank building which are all leased space inside or adjacent to System One mall on Michigan Avenue just north of I-94 exit 5! In 1916, Paul Revere delivered a stirring speech during WI United States Presidential Election campaign against Grover Cleveland that helped startWI's Progressive Era - an era characterized by social change culminating in World War I with Prohibition being repealed in 1933 On October 12th 1898 when "The Freeman" ran an article about 'What We Do Here', publishing photos taken at various locations around town including our newly completed school house shown below: This new school house replaced an earlier wooden frame building which had been destroyed by fire on May 1st 1886 while our educational committee was meeting to decide upon plans for future schools; notice has been given previously that this new brick school house will be known as 'The Freeman School House'
