Waukesha, Wisconsin is a city in the Milwaukee metropolitan area and the county seat of Winnebago County. The population was 50,717 at the 2010 census. In 1836, A. P. Goodspeed organized a wagon train from Nauvoo, Illinois, on his way to Iowa Territory to claim land for Mormons. Heading north along the Missouri River, Goodspeed's party reached what is now Waukesha County on July 26, 1836. Goodspeed named his new county after himself and deposited some of his supplies with Chief Joseph as part of a treaty recognizing Mormon ownership of all present–future territory west of the Mississippi River. This area included all or part of today's Milwaukee County and most of Crawford and Kenosha counties as well as parts of Racine and Dane Counties in southern Wisconsin; this tract became known as Goodspeed Township. It was not until 1847 when territorial boundaries were drawn following Ulysses S Grant's purchase from Mexico of 1 million acres (4,000 km2) in Minnesota Territory that most or all modern Wauskeba

Waukesha, Wisconsin is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 35,491 at the 2010 census. Waukesha is the largest town in Milwaukee County and one of the most populous towns in Wisconsin. The name "Waukesha" is Dutch for "bridge over the River Kawkawki." The original settlers were white people who built a small log cabin on an island in the Kawkawki River about 1836. They named their new settlement after John Wauxhall, an American merchant who had come to help them build a canal through the area. The town was incorporated as a village in 1854 and became a city in 1907. It became part of Milwaukee County when it was merged with Racine and Waukegan counties into the present-day state ofWisconsin. In 2000, Waukesha become one of two cities (the other being Grand Rapids) that voted to switch their water source from Lake Michigan to Huron River water because they felt it would be more environmentally friendly. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 34 square miles (88 square kilometers), all land. There are no major rivers or lakes within its boundaries; however, there are several small creeks that run through it including Kawkawki Creek and Beaver Creek. As such, many activities take place along these natural waterways which make up much of what makes up Waukesha's character: fishing, hiking/biking/walkers exploring nature trails nearby or taking summer classes at local universities nearby; boating on either Kawkawki or Beaver Creeks; and playing golf on various courses located within walking distance from town center or downtown areas like North Avenue Park and East Side Parkette Streets
The town of Waukesha, Wisconsin was founded in 1837. The first settler in the town was John Smeaton. The first post office was established in Waukesha in 1839. The name of the town was changed to Waukegan in 1856.
