In 1865, when Waukesha was incorporated as a village, residents chose George Washington Park as its central square and opened up its land for farming purposes. A post office was established at Waukesha in 1872 and remained operational until it was discontinued in 1912. In 1892, when an amalgamation of two smaller settlements occurred within what would become Milwaukee County, Waukesha became one of the group's initial members. During that time it developed into one of the most important industrial cities within Wisconsin due to its manufacturing capabilities such as shipbuilding and printing presses along with other associated businesses such as meatpacking plants and breweries that continue today including Chicago based MillerCoors Brewing Company and American Craft Brewers Association member Heineken International Brewing Co.. By 1998 there were over 100 businesses operating in downtown WaukesHA employing over 4500 people making it one ofWisconsin’s leading economic centers throughOUT THE STATE! During World War II many local companies took part including Allied Signal (later Alcatel-Lucent) which manufactured radar equipment for USAAF pilots; J &J Steakhouse (now known as Peet's Coffee) which produced beers for military use; Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Company active artillery shells; Hormel Foods Corporation producing rations for war effort; Eberhard investment company providing capital for early electric vehicles production by Chryslers – all local operations ceased during conflict but not before millions were invested by these companies across southeastern WI Wauconda Raceway became a favorite destination for motorsports enthusiasts beginning around 1957 with drag racing events taking place on Saturday nights adjacent to Irigaray Stadium where speedway hosted world championships throughout the 1960s concurrent with concerts Featuring rock groups like The Beatles performing live at night while others like Iron Maiden headlined larger shows during daytime hoursgreaseball alley became popular located just east off Highway 10 near Irigaray stadium becoming more popular still each year hosting large tournaments culminating in state championships
Waukesha was a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin from 1836 to 1892. The population was 1,984 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north-central shore of Lake Waukesha, about 17 miles (27 km) northwest of Milwaukee and 12 miles (19 km) east of Green Bay. The origin of the name "Waukesha" is unknown, but it may have been derived from one or more Indian terms meaning "place where water flows." There are references to a village called Waubesa on the Fox River in 1651 by Daniel Frohwerk and John Jameson. The first settler in what is now Waukesha County was Jonas Sargent in 1836. He founded a farm on what is now State Highway 10 near present-day Wausaukee Avenue and would become the first town official when he incorporated as a town in 1838. In 1846, John Dix built his sawmill at present-day Hortonville on the eastern edge of town and began production of lumber which soon became an important part of local commerce and culture. In 1862, Isaac Sears established a general store here which would grow into one of Wiscones leading stores over time. In 1870, Abraham Lincoln visited this area while campaigning for election as president; during his visit he stopped at Dix's mill on State Highway 10 for lunch before continuing his campaign trail through nearby Racine. After President Lincoln's inauguration in 1865, business picked up rapidly at Dix's store with customers coming from all over Wisconsin to buy goods made in Illinois by workers who were then training for war against Mexico under their new president's presidency via free labor programs instituted under Reconstruction policies created following American Civil War efforts). By 1880, there had already been developed some significant industrialization within Waukesha County with several large mills such as Sears' starting up operations along with smaller businesses such as Donnelley’s grocery store and Fritsch’s cigar factory that employed many local men beginning to fill jobs vacated by those who enlisted during America’s wartime effort including black Americans who had found work opportunities open after Reconstruction ended following slavery's end across much Southern America.)
