The Watertown Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. was organized in 1911. The original goal of the club was to provide a social and sporting experience for its members. In 1912, the club purchased a used Winchester rifle from John A. Fitch in Watertown. The rifle was refurbished and put into use by the club until it was sold in 1951 to the Watertown Gun Club Museum Society. From then on, it served as the museum’s primary firearm. In 1934,Club president Harry Aiken donated an American-made Colt 1903 revolver to the club which became our first pistol (1911 model). It is interesting that this donation came about because Colt had just increased production rates for their pistols by 10% due to World War II demand! In 1941, we acquired another Colt 1903 revolver from Edith Hargrave of Wauwatosa who had delivered it to us as part of a collection she had been saving since 1919! This weapon is still stored at our clubhouse today and is used occasionally for target practice! In 1943, we added a pump action shotgun to our arsenal when we acquired one from Normandy Gun Store (#4) in Green Bay WI. It has been through many changes over the years but remains an important part of our repertoire today! We also donated a 1935 Remington 870 shotgun to the society in 1958 after purchasing it from West Allis Shotguns Incorporated (now Outlaw Guns) in Milwaukee WI! This particular shotgun is used primarily for duck hunting!!!

It is now a rural community with a population of about 20,000 people located east of Milwaukee on Lake Michigan's north shore.

In recent decades there have been several waves of immigrants settling in watertown – including Poles who came fleeing communism in Poland during 1989-1991; Latinos who followed waves of deportations beginning shortly after Latin America attained independence from Spain or Mexico throughout much OFW history; people from India who moved here following partitioning India along communal lines following Indian independence; refugees from Katrina and Rita caused extensive damage to downtown properties but also created new jobs and housing opportunities for locals; Asians coming to fill open jobs vacated by Americans moving back into states like California after leaving dot com feverze; Africans brought here by apartheid South Africa as part that effort to keep Africentric communities alive despite exile mandated living elsewhere Today's community sees itself as "a little bit more diverse than when I first moved here." Despite these changesover time though there has always been an core nucleus made up largelyof people who share a common love/hate relationship towards each other - called "the Wausau mafia". In spite thereof though recent events have underscored just how fragile this social fabric really is... currently we are facing another major challenge called"The Great Lakes Megalopolis".

Watertown became a town in 1837, when the United States Post Office moved from Green Bay to Watertown. The first post office at Watertown was built in 1837 by James A. Moody.
