Watertown, Wisconsin is a small town located in the heart of the United States. The town was founded in 1836 by Amoskeag and his wife, Sarah. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on the Fox River and its numerous factories. In 1938, Watertown became an incorporated municipality. Today, Watertown is a vibrant community with a rich history that can be found throughout its streets and businesses. One of the most significant aspects of Watertown's history is its role as an optical accessory center. From 1906 until 1978, Watertown was home to Bethlehem Optical Company Ltd., which was one of the largest optical companies in the world at that time. During this time, Bethlehem produced many innovative products such as binoculars, microscopes, telescopes, and sunglasses. Additionally, Bethlehem played a major role in developing American optoelectronics technology during this time period. Specifically, during World War II (1939-1945), Bethlehem produced key components for America's war effort including light bulbs and other electronic equipment. Today, Bethlehem Optical Company Ltd.'s legacy continues through several subsidiaries including Hargrave Optics Inc., which produces vision optics products such as monoculars and sniper rifles; McIntosh Opticals LLC., which produces sight products such as bowsights and telescope mounts; Townsend Optics LLC., which manufactures contact lenses; EarthOptics Inc., which manufactures polarizing filters; and Bendix Optical Products Inc., which produces electrician supplies including optic cable

The racial makeup of Watertown was 98% white (93% European American), 1% black or African American, 0% Native American,[2] 0% Asian Pacific Islander,[3] 2% from other races,[4] and 1% from two or more races.[5] Hispanic or Latino residents made up 4% of the population.[6]

Watertown is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Kankakee County. The population was 11,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet metropolitan area. The first European to visit what is now Watertown was French explorer Jean Nicolet in 1636, who named it "Québec." In 1836, United States Congress passed an act naming Watertown as the capital of Illinois Territory; but this city's incorporation as a town did not take place until 1849. Watertown was platted on December 12, 1837 by John Graves Simcoe and Caleb Greenwood; it became a town after being designated as such by Act No. 5th Regency July 7th, 1850. On February 14, 1861, during American Civil War (1861–1865), Confederate General Robert Ewell arrived at Indianola Bridge from Mobile Bay with his army and burned down Fort Dearborn on April 6th while Union forces were nearby trying to cross over to support their allies south of the river. By 1862, most of what is now Watertown had been destroyed by war damage and rebuilding began immediately under new leadership including City Councilor Amos Eaton who served from 1865 until his death in 1870; he helped lead downtown development that continues to this day. On September 20, 1872 due to drought conditions affecting much of central Illinois so severe that grain prices collapsed within days despite government credit available for purchase at $2 per bushel (equivalent to $ in 2009), parts of southern Kankakee County joined together forming one new local government called Kendall County which included all unincorporated areas east or north of Interstate 90 between Racine Avenue eastward and present day Willard Road westward - this constituted one large rural area near where Milwaukee lies today with its many factories hogging most manufacturing jobs available for people outside those cities during that time period
