Watertown is a small town in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,922 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis metropolitan area. Watertown is known for its Wooden Knife Museum and as the birthplace of the modern kitchen knife. The first knives were made byNative Americans in the area now known as Watertown. The first knife factory was built here in 1875 by pioneer James Wessels. In 1911, German immigrant Heinrich Kling set up a blade manufacturing business in Watertown that became Kling Brothers Knife Company. Kling also founded what is now Wisconsin's first grocery store on North Fourth Street in 1916. Kling's company produced more than 1 million knives over a period of fifty years and soon became one of America's leading knife manufacturers during the 1930s through 1960s when production shifted from Germany to China and other countries around the world. The Wooden Knife Museum opened its doors in 1984 to commemorate 100 years of wooden kitchen knives being manufactured in Watertown with an emphasis on traditional American designs and makers principles such as craftsmanship, value, sustainability and accessibility for everyone who wants to experience them firsthand or learn more about their history

Watertown is a small town in the central part of Wisconsin. It was founded in 1824 by John C. Sinden and his brother-in-law, George Armstrong Clark. The town became an incorporated municipality in 1897. Watertown is located on the north bank of the Fox River, east of Milwaukee. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. The first settlers to Watertown were German families who built a log cabin near present day downtown Watertown in 1824. A post office was established in 1827, and soon there were two other settlements around it: Weixel and Schmidtville. In 1828, when the Illinoisan Railroad arrived through that area, water transportation became important to the town as well - shipping goods from Milwaukee to points downstream became much more efficient using the Fox River as a means of transport instead of going via land roads which could be closed during floods or ice jams. In 1850, when territorial boundaries were set for Wisconsin Territory, parts of what are now Watertown and Waukesha County were included within that territory; this led to another name change for one of those towns: Waterloo (renamed West Watertown shortly thereafter). The first settler in West Watertown had been Captain John Peebles – he moved into what is now known as State Street in 1857 after buying land from Nicholas Redman (the original owner) on which to build a house and farmstead. In 1865, General Oliver Hazard Perry arrived at what is now downtown Watertown with his army march from Fort Snelling downriver towards Lake Michigan; during his visit some stores along State Street came into use as military barracks for troops quartered there before their march back out again across the river mouth westward began on December 6th following their arrival at about 12 PM local time January 1st 1865 under command by Colonel Elijah Hullinger; these buildings still stand today including both their original three story brick buildings with gable roofs which housed shops/stores plus an attached garage/smith shop/etc., behind them stands today’s Artesian Wells Fargo Building also built between 1865-1867 directly across State Street from Judge Augustus Kelley’s home) then completed just prior to US Capitol building being erected nearby only slightly later! This event forever changed not only how many people would live within blocks or so 0f “itself” but also center stage governmental events which took place right here very near & inside its doors!! Watertown's history can be traced back to 1795 when separate families from nearby Waukesha started to settle in what is now Watertown Township on land that had been part of Waukesha County since 1792. They named their new community after Mount Pleasant Township, Pennsylvania which they had just crossed into United States territory during the Revolutionary War under British command. By 1800, most of these early settlers had moved away and their original homes were replaced by log buildings built by local farmers around this time. In 1847, John Miller founded what is now MillerCoors Brewery in Watertown with his brother JacobMiller with help from their father-in-law Samuel Morse who donated 4 acres (1 km²) of land east of downtown for the purpose. This location would become one of Brewster’s Triangle areas where breweries could locate because it offered easy access to railroad tracks running north–south through central Milwaukee and east–west through downtown
